The Meteor was used to pursue and shoot down the German V-1's if I recall correctly; but that was about it. The Me 262, of course, saw considerable combat at the end of the war; Chuck Yeager is credited with shooting down at least one in his P-51 Mustang.

Without Google, my memory says that one was the failure of the computer program to set the lander on the surface. Armstrong had to override that program and make the landing manually; running the fuel a mite low in the process. The other escapes me.

That much is correct. Computer had less power & memory than a modern watch.

Duct tape saved 1 return capsule, Not sure if it was this one or not.

Second part of the question was by far the most life thraeting. They Would have never left the moon without it being over come.
