I knew what you meant. :) I believed "continuously occupied" you meant by peoples of European origin.

Yep that is what I meant to ask. Good thinking on your part.

During WW2 the Germans landed 2 groups of saboteurs on US soil. Group in the north & another in Florida.
What did they accomplish??
What happened to them???

Did not accomplish much, one of them turned them in the first or second day and the whole lot was prosecuted and later executed.

If I can play: Reinhard Heydrich, does it ring a bell?

A particularly viscous **** stationed in Czechoslovakia. Was killed in an attack on his car. I think he died from a piece of horsehair from the car seat blown into his body causing an infection. This is from memory..

That sounds about right to me.. seems they were discovered in the northern landing by a coastie guarding the beach also. The whole thing fell apart pretty quick.

Very, very good! He was the Reichsprotector - Governor for Czech countries - Czechoslovak paratroopers dropped from London ambushed him in Prague and he later died in hospital and you got right the point about horse hair too.

The coastie didn't "discover' them. He came across them on his patrol but continued on and reported seeing them not knowing who they were. From memory a search party was sent out and found some of their buried supplies. The "spies" were landed from a submarine.

You folks are really good on the WW2 stuff.
There were 8 saboteurs. The ones in the north were dicovered by the guard & tried to bribe him with $300. Eventually they all made it to Chicago. Bought new cloths, partied for a few days, 1 went off to be with a former girl fried.
All 8 were tried in a military court & found guilty. 7 Were sentenced to death & were hanged in Arizona. The one with a life sentence was sent back to Germany in 1946 or 47.

New Questions.
Who fired the first shot in the raid on Pearl Harbor????

What was the brand of the first motor cycle made in Japan???

After the war the US was flooded with cheap junk form Japan. Mostly toys. Now collector items. Japan tried to disguise their origion.
What did they do???

Who fired the first shot in the raid on Pearl Harbor????

The USS Ward ( a US destroyer) fired the first shot on a Japanese mini sub trying to sneak into Pearl Harbor. Finally proven a few years ago when it was found with the 5 inch shell hole thru the conning tower just like the old timers had said it happened all those years ago.

I really like the history channel:)

Who shot down the first Japanese aircraft at Pearl Harbor and was underway and at GQ with live ammo and ready when they showed up. Hint; not the Navy.

Army air corps? Just guessing here.

On december 6th the USCGC Taney had failed their gunnery drills. So the next morning the CO had the ship out and underway in the channel at full GQ ready to conduct gunnery drills. Locked and loaded. It just so happened that's when the Japanese showed up. The CGC Taney was the last ship that was at Pearl that day to be decommissioned. Always Ready.

Didn't he try to assassinate ******?

He and many other conspirators sure did on July 20 1944 by placing a bomb at the conference table at the "wolf's lair" and thinking that ****** was dead they tried to pull off a carefully planned coup that almost succeeded. but ultimately failed and by midnight he was dead with 3 others. Over the next few months over 7000 people were arrested, and over 5000 of them were executed, many in very grisly manners with film cameras rolling so ****** could enjoy their agonizing deaths. The point is not all German soldiers were as crazy as Der Fuehrer.

I know NOTHING about motorcycles, but the first ones I remember hearing about as a kid, were Honda. So, I'll make a WAG and say Honda.
