Tropical Depression 28, soon to be Zeta, headed for the Gulf Coast

The Atlantic Hurricane Season continues with the sixth letter of the Greek alphabet, having exhausted all traditional names. This is only the second time this has been done, the first being the hyperactive season in 2005.

Zeta is currently forecast to become a Hurricane, but weaken to a Tropical Storm before coming ashore near Mississippi.

Again for Louisiana. A tough season for those folks.

2PM update brings it further west and now into SE LA as a Hurricane.

This is the 7th time this year that I have been in the middle of the projected cone this year. Cristobal, Marco, Laura, Sally, Beta, Delta and now Zeta.

My area has been extremely lucky so far as most have turned West and missed us or lost their intensity before they got here. The worst we have had is small branches blown down and regular rains.

Thankfully, the Governor and media have not been advising people to evacuate each time as they did the year Katrina hit. That year the media played up each storm and people were advised to evacuate for 4 storms before Katrina. Each of those 4 storms turned into nothing and when people were advised to evacuate for Katrina they were so tired of the media crying "wolf" and so broke from evacuating multiple times, waiting in traffic for hours, using up all of their vacation time for nothing that many would not or could not evacuate and thousands were killed.

The good part is that I can not remember an October hurricane that hit Louisiana and was so powerful that it killed multiple people directly. Only deaths are usually from those using generators for electricity and dying from co2 poisoning.

Data from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate
that Zeta has become a hurricane, with maximum sustained winds near
80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts.

Here is a live camera at the southern part of Louisiana, as long they have service. I do not know if they have backup power. Wind should be picking up soon.

Looks like this one is coming straight at us and will hit in 2 hours with over 100 mph winds. This will be the strongest one to hit our area since Katrina. We may lose internet for days but I do have my generator hooked up. Hope my roof holds. The main worry is trees falling on things. Sure wish I had insurance but good insurance is impossible to get here.
