Finished baling and noticed hyraulic oil squirting from the steel line that activates the lift gate. It had previously been repaired not by me by welding a larger section of pipe over the 3/8" pipe. The pipe has two large right angle bends that prevent me from removing it to try to weld and the space is too tight for a rubber hose. Seems nobody in my town fabricates steel lines and I don't trust the compression fittings on an automotive brake line to stand the pressure of the gate opening and slamming shut. I've been trying to find a source of pipe online. What pressures should I be thinking about? (one McMaster Carr seamless steel pipe says it is good to 5400 psi ) do you think I could cut the piece out, put a 35* JIC connector with flare on each end to bridge the gap? Any suggestions about sources of supplies (they sell in long lengths and I only need a couple of feet)?
And of course, New Holland no longer makes this part.

Brake line will be fine.

Here's a PDF of pressure ratings for different diameters and wall thicknesses of steel tubing - (link on that page is a PDF) - if you can swing it, a tubing bender with roller followers does a nicer (and easier) job, especially on 1/2" steel and up. Here's one of mine

Also, discounthydraulichose.com sells flareless JIC connectors for tubing; I've used several, no problems yet. Here's a few pics of my last flareless job (1/2" tubing, .049 wall)

Yes I know, but I tried and failed several times to upload a picture. so, imagine a 3/8" steel line with a pinhole and hydraulic fluid squirting out. pipe is rusty.

Got a bit carried away with bends, was trying to keep things as low profile as possible to avoid snagging... Steve

You won't develop any more pressure than your tractor system can make and that is almost always less than 2500 psi. I had a 638 years ago and got a 450 now. Had a lot of issues with the twine wrap mechanism.
