How do you like the 6.2L?? Is it 3:73 rear??

yep, 3:73. LOVE it! tons of power and tq and the fuel mileage isnt bad as you would think. im getting equal to what my 5.3 got(16), best i ever got was 18 but i mostly do mixed driving and it gets between 15-16.

Is this the consensus for all the Ford Diesels over the last 10 to 15 years?

I've heard the older ones are pretty much bullet proof compared to the GM offerings at the time.

Beyond the old 7.3L offering, the Ford engines have had more than their share of troubles. The real complaints came when Ford introduce the 6.0L engine..... The engines were plagued by an extremely high failure rate and really got a black eye... So by the time they got the failures under control, the engine had such a bad reputation, nobody wanted them... I hear that the 6.4L engine was an improvement, but with only a 2 year production run, who knows...
Ford has since went to an in-house designed engine, the 6.7L. IMHO, I think its still too soon to say its a good design since it is having a high failure rate in the cab and chassis configuration.. The new 6.7L comes with a new 6 speed auto also...there have been some significant issues with it as well.

Thanks. My current ride is an 04 5.3L, and needless to say when I replace it, it will be with a Max Trailer truck, unless I can find a nice Dmax I would be comfy with.

I've had an Ecoboost since 8/24. Have a bit over 2000 miles on it and have towed my 7x14 cargo trailer for 500 or so miles. I have a super crew, xlt 4x4 with the max towing package. It's awesome. But a lot of people are disappointed with the mileage. I'm not. At 60 mph, towing the trailer over pretty flat terrain, I got 11 mpg yesterday. Without the trailer, 60 to 65 mph, 19 to 20 mpg. So far, doing the calculations by hand has usually come out 14-15 because of stop and go driving. There were a lot of problems with ones built between Feb and April 2011-a bad batch of transmission pumps were put in. Caused a lot of grief. Mine was built in August and hasn't had a problem yet. I got the rear view camera which is great for hooking up trailers. It uses regular 87 octane gas and pulls like a bull. Major problem I had on the first trip was pulling the trailer too fast. That tends to draw unwanted attention from the authorities plus totally kills gas mileage. And the 2012 Ecoboost trucks can be had with the 36 gallon gas tank I understand. 2011, they only offered the 26 gallon. Kind of annoying, but something I can live with. Anyway, I thought I'd toss this out if you still were thinking of buying new.

that's what I had(2004 Z71 w/ 5.3). I looked high and low for a 2005-2007 classic with the Duramax. they either had high miles(WELL over 100k), were moded(didn't want someones ragged out hot rod), price was way too high. i found 3 that i was interested in during the months that i shopped. the one i settled on and was serious about going to take a hard look at was a 2007 CC, Duramax, 4x4, 75,000 miles for $27,000. it wasn't loaded out, but wasnt a stripped down work truck either, had bench cloth seats, stuff like that. had never had a 5th wheel or anything, looked to be very clean. i should have jumped on it that day but decided to wait a week and if it was still there, and i didnt find anything else, then id buy it. it didnt stay around that long, as i went back and it had been sold.

My father bought a 2011 Eco Boost 4x4 Super Crew on May 1st. It has every option on the list and man, what a truck. His has the 3.73 gears and is a beast. It is the closest thing to a diesel I have seen. So far he has averaged about 18mpg.

they've been selling really good around here. so good that the dealership won't even hear the word "rebate, lowest price possible, give me your best deal". they don't have to cause theyre selling that good. so expect to pay $44,000 you see on the sticker price. i got my $48,000 sticker price truck for $38,000 so as much as I liked the EcoBoost, I liked saving ten grand even better.

My 2 cents dont mean a whole lot on here, but I am going to offer it anyway. A few years ago I had a 2005 lt cc 4x4 chevy with the dmax. My wife was driving our new at the time 08 cc chevy silverado lt 4x4. The dmax had 150000 miles on her and besides for the expected egr cleaning, waterpump, and a altenator going out. Between me and the po,(the truck was local, started new at the same dealership and traded there, also new), it hauled a 450 case dozer,32 foot cattle trailer, and worked on the farm all of its life. That was all the trouble we had out of that truck. It averaged 16.5 miles to gallon between me and po. It didnt matter if I hauled the lawnmower to moms 15 miles up the road or the jeep on x amount of miles to a trailride. The fuel milege didnt vary much. Well to make a long story short. We traded the truck for my wife a new car. I MISS THAT DMAX! A gasser will not get the fuel milege towing whatever u want to tow, whether its a lawnmower and I cannot haul the M backhoe we have on the farm without borrowing a truck. Yes the dmax was a little more expensive to operate, but you already have it. I like my 08 truck, but,it is not a dmax. LUTT

Thanks to all for the advice. I am leaning toward just keeping my current truck. It gets empty about 21 mpg on the highway if I drive less than 70 and around 19.5 if I drive over 70 mph. Towing (as noted, now rarely over 6,000 pounds, it gets around 13, perhaps a little more, even towing up some pretty steep grades). I have really become one of those people who does not need a diesel except for the possible justification that I just drive a bunch. One thing I did not mention and as an aside, my dealer was anxious to give me $37,000 on trade in, even though the truck has the mileage I noted. I do not think I would get that with a gasser, ever--so they realize it must be a pretty nice truck.
