Actually a extended cab takes away from the towing capacity in all trucks I have seen. You usually get your highest towing and payload capacity in a long bed regular cab plain work truck. They are the lightest and that = more capacity.
Chris
Very true. 4WD, extended/crew cabs, etc all take away from towing capacity. Sometimes a 3/4 ton will have more towing (but not hauling) capacity than a 1-ton for similar reasons, but usually the difference is small.

OK, I completely understand the lower payload. I just figured the longer wheelbase = better towing. Oh well, I figured wrong...:D:rolleyes:

Longer Wheel Base does = better towing but on paper all the extras like extra or crew cabs, 4x4, nice interiors, ect take away from the tow rating. A base level truck long bed 2 wheel drive will always tow the most if properly equipped to tow. For example Ford and GM advertise 10,500# tow ratings on or there abouts on 1/2 ton trucks. The probably make less than 1% that can do that. Most want leather, power windows, 4x4, super cabs, sat radio, bigger heavier wheels, running boards, ext. So the tow rating ends up being in the neighborhood of 9,300# or so.

Anyway you were right in your thinking Farmboy but on paper it does not work.

I like a car hauler because it is low to the ground, when i owned a deck over trailer, i made steps for both sides so it was easy to get up and down.
How much lower than the deck over is the car hauler.?

A deckover can easily be twice the distance off the ground.

I would say an easy 18".

My tilt bed trailer is only 20" deck height from ground. My deck over trailer is 34"minumum.
Which trailer do you like the best?

I don't know but I'm starting to get the feeling that putting a truck and trailer together is going to be no easy task.
