This is getting way off track but a Suburban is basically a GM 1500 or 2500 series truck platform. They are basically identical underneath and from the drivers door forward.

Same goes for a Excursion, same as a F-250.

I do not see how these are any less durable as the truck cousins they have?:confused2:

Chris

What's less durable is the plastic crap and carpet found all over the back of excursions and suburbans that you wont have on a capped truck bed. Plastic doesnt take well to throwing in loads of firewood, or hunks of steel, and blood doesnt come out of carpet as well as washing out of a steel truck bed....

That's what he's talking about durability. Too much stuff to break, dirty, and damage inside of an SUV.

That, and the towing capacity isn't the same in an SUV as in the 1/2 or 3/4 ton trucks that they share parts with.

I had an A.R.E. on my F-150 and was very pleased with it. I had it for about eight years until I sold that truck. I bought an F250 in 08 and decided to with a LEER, only because they offered a package that was cheaper than the A.R.E. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. It is a piece of junk. It didn't fit right from the day it was installed and I had to have the dealer take it off and send it back to the factory. Everything was a fight to get it done and LEER customer service did nothing to help the situation. It took three months to get the unit back and although it now fits okay, I will never buy a LEER product again. If I hadn't put a large deposit down I would have walked away. Although I like having a cap and it capacity to keep things secure and out of the weather, On my next truck I will consider a sliding cover for the bed. It will give me the capacity to not only securely carry tools and stuff, but it will also allow me to carry larger items without having to take the cap off the truck. STAY AWAY FROM LEER. Terrible product, worse customer service.

I bought an A.R.E. cap with lifetime warranty. It de-laminated and caused considerable damage to my vehicle. Both the dealer and the factory said they would build me a new topper AND reimburse me for the damage to my vehicle. The replacement topper was junk, the dealer was an *** and the factory refused to reimburse me for the damage their product caused. Actions speak louder than words and a company is only as good as how well
they take care of a problem. In my case...they DID NOT take care of the
customer. I have spoken to others who had the same issue. I would never buy another A.R.E.. I have had several LEER toppers, and they stood behind their product much better. After owning both an A.R.E. and LEER, I would buy the LEER and be confident in the dealer system, the warranty and the company in standing behind their product.

We bought our LEER canopy new in 1998 and it looked great. The top now sags. One of the locks hasn't worked right for some time. It is heavy and hard to take off and on and this has been more and more of a problem. It is also hard to see through when driving too with the dark tinted windows. Because of the dark windows and it's so heavy we left it off for quite a while and left it in the back yard. We just cleaned it up and couldn't seem to get all the grass or moss stains off of the rough fiberglass interior. I tried brushes and Soft Scrub. I even bothered to ask LEER and they were clueless. The told me to "google" for an answer. I doubt we are the first ones to leave their canopy in their backyard like this too. Being able to clean it well on the inside as well as the outside it important. I would be looking at other manufacturers before I would look at a LEER they are not customer service oriented at all. They are all about looks and selling and once you get past the smoke and mirrors you realize their aren't that well made or thought out. I don't feel so bad now reading how so many here have had problems with their customer service. It's not me, it's them.
