Truck Tire Partial blowout?

/ Truck Tire Partial blowout? #11
When you're servicing this tire, please for your sake use a remote valve on your air line. 100~120 psi in a truck tire is deadly force. Especially if it is already suspect.

We had a tire repaired a couple of years ago, and when my driver went to lift it out of the bed it exploded in his face. Fortunately he hadn't put his hands on it yet, but his hearing was damaged for a couple of days. ( we thought someone had shot him... as we were in the bush during moose season. )

What did the tire shop find?

Dry rot and age. To play it safe, I had all 4 rear tires replaced with new ones for $1560. New tires were only a few dollars more than recaps because the old tires were too old and too bad to recap. The shop was going to charge a $90 carcass fee for each tire because they couldn't salvage the carcasses which brought the price for recaps up almost equal to new ones.
