Truck tires

Wow, I would be making the dealer replace them or pro rate them at least. They can not read the data plate on the door of the truck they sold you in the first place? Pretty incompetent service dept in my opinion. I would never take anything there if they can not properly inflate a tire.:confused2:

Chris

The dealership has been nothing short of fantastic in every way over the course of multiple trucks over the years...This was certainly a mistake on their part but I didn't check it either. Been 7 or so months since they were replaced, no way to prove it now. Lesson learned. Some tire places even inflate to max sidewall. I usually check when I get home. This time I didn't.

I have had courser's on my last set as they were on the 2002 F250 when I purchased it. I don't put many miles on my truck a year but I do run around on the farm a lot. I was pleased with them until the tread was about 3/4 gone. Then it seemed I had to lock in 4X4 a lot.

Went with the Firestone Destination M/T (see the link provided) last winter. My tires are a little oversize and do have a little hum while going down the highway but only had to lock in my 4X4 once since I got them. At that time I was pushing through snow deep enough to leave drag marks from my axles under the truck. Been used in mud, set grass, standing water with no problems.

My brother also bought a pair of the regular sized tires to put on his Chevy 2500 HD. They are as quiet as street tires and have just as much bite as my oversize tires.

I previously had some Cooper Zeon LTZ in a 20" on a older F250. They did very well the first winter, but by year two they were terrible traction-wise. I got less than 25k on them before they were very close to the wear bars. Granted, they may do better on a half-ton truck.

Thanks..I have a feeling that these stupid low profile foot-wide tires are going to be the bane of my existence. I miss the 15" rally wheels on my 76 & 77 GMC's. :(

Gonna call Tire Rack and see what their experiences are. They seem to be pretty straight up.

I got rid of the big wheels on my NBS Silverado and replaced them with a set of 17" OEM wheels - they just are large enough to clear the calipers. Lots more tire choices in 17", and cheaper too - just make sure the TPMS are in the wheels you buy or you can put the units out of your 20" wheels in them.

I got the tires yesterday.

I have been running Federal Couragia MTs, same size and load rating. I bought them used shortly after buying the truck, because the tires on the truck when I bought it were worn out. Switching to the Discoverer AT3 has been like driving a completely different truck. I knew that they would be quieter on the road, because pretty much any kind of mud tire is going to be loud. What surprised me the most was the difference in ride quality. With the Federals, going down my gravel road caused the seatbelts to lock up, and going over train tracks was like riding a rodeo bull. I just figured the truck rode so stiff because it's a flatbed. The Cooper tires have made it a completely different experience. I don't have to wait until I get to the pavement to put my seatbelt on, and the train tracks no longer launch things out of the cupholders.

My first impressions are probably not a completely fair assessment, simply because I switched from a very stiff, loud mud tire and pretty much anything would've been better on the highway. With that said, I'm very glad I made the switch. The Federal Couragias are not a bad tire- they're just a mud tire. They looked better on the truck than the Coopers do, but the Discoverers do look good. The ride and noise levels are just so much better now.

I haven't had the chance to get them off in the fields or the rain yet, but when I do I'll try to keep this updated.

I have an F-350 long box crew cab 4x4. My dealer was supposed to get me Firestone Transforce Ht's as I haul trailers commercially, and put on 5000 km's per week. they screwed up and forgot to order them, so they gave me load range E Bridgestone Dueller AT's (the newest style.) They are horrible. With a 12,000 pound bumper pull trailer, even with sway bars on, they are uncontrollable. The rears showed significant wear after only one week (5000 km's) Even at 80 psi the truck fish tails like crazy, which contributed to the fast wear as you are always fighting it on the highway.
They say they are good for traction, but not a good highway towing tire.

I loved the stock Continentals that were on it.

Just put Firesrone HT's on my E450 MH..What a difference...They do handle nice.

I am running the Toyo MT tires on my F250 superduty crewcab 4x4. They are not cheap. But they're E rated, give me about 50k miles, and are the absolute most well behaved mud tire when it comes to on-highway use, even with 10k lbs on a bumper pull, that I have ever used. And not just by a slim margin either.

I put on a set of 6 Uniroyal HD tries on my F350 5 years ago. They were rated to 50K miles. I was able to get 45K out of the outside tires and I am still running the inside dually tires. Looks like they will go another 15K. So I would say that overall I was very pleased with the results.
