Truck Washing

I just got home from running today's errands...stopped at the local drive-thru do-it-yourself wash...$1.75 for 3 1/4 minutes. What a RIPOFF...no wonder they don't get much business. If they gave you five minutes for a buck I bet they would have cars lined up all the time.

The automatic cash washes around here have the extra wide bays(duallys welcome) but does say if you have the extra wide mirrors(fold in) and take your reciever hitch out.

by the time I have to remove my locking tounge and think about my mirrors and whatnot.. easier for me to just wash it myself... cheaper too...

Our well water, according to my wife, is calcium enriched to make sure it spots. So I wash our vehicles with rain water I've collected. About a spoon of zip car wash/wax detergent added to a 5 gallon pail of water using a 18 inch soft bristle nylon broom. Just don't bump the a mirror with that synthetic broom head unless you would like a new outside mirror. A hand held pump sprayer filled with rain water does a decent job of rinsing. I've found with that combination very little rinsing is required.

I guess I am an extremest when it comes to washing my vehicles. I use two buckets and a brush to get the flat basic areas and sponge for the hard to reach areas. The first bucket is a prewash for the brush to remove any abrasive debris before the wash bucket. I dry with a synthetic chamois. Two main factors for resale value are miles and condition. Miles I have no control over but I can control the condition. I also use a polish like nufinish then topcoat with carnauba wax to bring out a deeper color. The wax doesn't last as long as the synthetic polish so I like having the protection underneath when the wax wears off. Nothing like the feeling of driving a shiny vehicle.
