I've seen a tractor I want to buy, what is a garden variety trucking fee per mile? I am up in southern New England. Around 160 mile total trip.

I paid $1000 to have a JD6415 with loader trucked from TN to MI in 2010. I am guessing about 900 miles

around here the haul rate is $3.00 a loaded mile.

If you don't have a vehicle or trailer to transport it yourself, perhaps you can rent a Ryder Truck with a ramp? This way, you can safeguard its transport. Just a thought.

If you are in a hurry and want it as a dedicated load, then $3 a mile is about right. If you can wait a while, you can many times get your tractor on with a partial load coming your way for $1 or less per mile. There are businesses that line up jobs for truckers (cant think of names right now but there are some threads here on TBN with references) and that is who I would contact along with local Yellow Freight or other trucking outfits. Your local tractor dealer might provide a trucking reference also.

When I bought it a few years ago I had my 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor (about 4000 lb) hauled about 120 miles round trip by a local hauler with a rollback wrecker for $220.

For that relatively short trip, I'd go with a local hauler. Do ensure they have insurance!!
When I shipped my tractor from PA to Vermont, I contacted uShip (Used Equipment Shipping - John Deere MachineFinder), but it turned out the 4400, loader, RFM and chipper would fit on the moving van (the mover's idea...not mine...but it worked).

One mover in VT I wholeheartedly do NOT recommend is Tydan's Moving...beware of them.
