All these pictures remind me of the truck I drove up at the school I was at. It was a 99 F350 crew cab diesel dually 4x4 with the 6 speed and a custom aluminum flatbed. That was sure a nice truck to drive, and handled the custom 35-ft gooseneck box trailer with ease. It was even fun to take into town by itself, if you could get by with the turning radius and its long length (taking up two parking spaces at walmart). I miss driving it every once and a while now, and there have been many times when such a truck could have been handy.

Here is my Chevy Crew Cab K3500 that my son took yesterday standing on top of my new Storage Container (Pic 1 | Pic 2 | Pic 3 with details over on CBN). My Bobcat is blocking it somewhat, but you can see the truck good enough.

Here is my big beast......1997 F250HD 4X4 460V8 ext cab long bed. Takes about a square mile to do a circle....rides like a truck.....and refuses to pass a gas station. Pulls great as long as you have both fuel tanks full! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif She gets about 11-12mpg empty and about 4 when she woks hard. Some day I will get a new super duty with a deisel......when I win the lotto.

Cheese; I keep on thinking I got a new truck and then realize it's seven years old. But still seems new every time I climb into it.

And it's down a lota work too.

Hey hillslider, our trucks are very similar. I too have the 460 and can't seem to pass a gas station. I've got the 5 speed with 4:10 axles. Which tranny do you have? Ours are also within a couple of inches on wheelbase so I know all about those long turns. I've also heard the TTB front end doesn't turn as tight as the solid axle in the F350s.

I will say, yours is a lot cleaner than mine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

RobS,

Well am not to proud to say but I have the automatic trans in mine......can not remember the ratio /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I needed a truck and bought used a few years ago. As many of you know finding a good used truck is impossible. I had to settle for the auto and only wish for the stick. Sure would help to crawl up and down the West Virginia hills with.I took this picture last fall just after her once a year wax job. Right now she sits in the shed with a pile of bird S--T on the hood that I have to take care of this weekend. I posted this other pic a few weeks ago showing her at work on our little farm.

The shortbed duallys are rare. You see that distinctive fuel door right there on the wheel well. Most people get the duallys for gooseneck/fifthwheels

I spec'ed one out on Ford's website a while back. It seems you can only get the short bed dually in white or black. I'll let that be my reason for not running out and ordering one /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We tow a fifth wheel camper with ours and I can envision where the dually would be a more stable ride. That may not actually be true, but it seems logical. I've got a slider hitch for my current short bed but rarely have to slide it. Extended pin box on the camper takes care of most situations.

Ultimately, my attraction to the shortbed dually is the rarity and the looks. That, and a few dollars are why I don't own one yet /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think the stability is mostly in cross winds and in cornering. Pretty handy if you have a rear wheel blowout too /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Come on guy, whats with all the new stuff? Where are all the "farm" trucks? This is a picture of my 1974 Dodge power wagon. She's had a hard life, and just keeps on taking it.[BTW, it only has 20k on it]
