Ha! There ain't one! It is, however, interesting that the divisions amongst us TBN'ers are so fluid. Some members of the group who feel their ox gored in one thread and commence to gang up on the transgressor, then find, in another thread, that they have themselves trod on the collective opinions of their erstwhile posse members and are being, themselves, castigated!

I sometimes wonder if this discussion board isn't really a sociologist's or psychologist's research project.

It must be your deodorant, or maybe the lack thereof Chuck. I've never had nothing but hugs and "amens" at TBN. I don't know how many times I've heard cowboy doc say , "ahhhhhhh man!" It must be the southern drawl. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Uh Huh. Deeper and deeper around the ankles it gets! You even gave me something to slam you about there...."southern drawl"...first place, it should be Southern. Second place, Texas ain't the South, it's only south.

No doubt! Okee had a PM to me and of course I responded. As strongly as I felt about the matter, I ended with:

"I have been in many posts and I am sure we have talked before online. You have probably assisted me on tractor related matters etc. For that I am grateful to you as I am all the members of this forum. I hope that you realize that one cannot really be personal on a forum. I will see threads from you in the future and I can say that I will enter them on a new day with no memory or grudge regarding this issue and thread. I hope you will do the same.

Watching long standing feuds on TBN always makes me laugh. At least we are differing on a serious issue. Some feud over tractor color!"

I consider all of you TBN people to be the greatest and smartest group on the web. Why else would I turn to a tractor forum for questions about firearms? I just can't think of a better resource for good hard earned knowledge.

Rogue,

Looks like that thread you started became...

A truely neutered thread... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Guess that is about as close to neutral as that one will become... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm usually against the locking of threads, but I can't see anywhere good for that one to go from there..

Hey! I cleared my first snow with my new RB60. It did terrible until I figured out that the top link needed adjustd. Seems better now. We got 8" here.. what did you get henro?

/ Truely Neutral Thread #8
Unfortunately, we only got about 8" here too... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

With the soft ground it was not as much fun as usual clearing it away...

and I can say that I will enter them on a new day with no memory or grudge regarding this issue and thread. I hope you will do the same.

And, I responded that his response was well considered and no hard feelings, no grudges. Well, maybe for a few minutes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I did add a few words about the futility of anyone trying to tell me what I really think. Maybe it's because I don't fit into any mold. If I told you all the story about how my wife and I were the only supporting members of the local opera society who arrived in a pickup truck, it would become more clear. And, that was even before I owned a tractor. Although, I did bend to the point of wearing socks to the opera.

Here's a bit of philosophy that I stole from a quotation on a tee-shirt. Any philosophy that can fit on a tee-shirt has to be a good one. It is a lot more difficult to live up to than it intially sounds:

I used to be disgusted,
but now I'm just amused.

Re: Truly Neutral Thread

There are 2 different type of threads that need moderating;

1. Threads that start out OK, then drift into a flame war.
Someone starts a thread about a topic that does not violate TBN guidelines. Responses are posted that are related to the original subject matter. This can go on until the thread dies a natural death. However, sometimes these threads metastasize into something provocative, usually when someone tosses in a comment, unrelated to the original subject, about a controversial topic, a topic not permitted by TBN guidelines.

Here begins the road to Perdition. However, it's not necessarily a road without exits. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If no one takes the 'bait', all is well. However, sometimes people give into their darker side, feel they just have to educate/correct and they post a response. You can identify these messages because they usually start out with something like, "I wasn't going to respond but..." (they should have followed their first instinct) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Keep in mind that you have up to 24 hours to modify your own posts. Also keep in mind that, because of the database design, moderators can not delete a single post if it already has replies. It's not unusual for moderators to get a PM from a TBNer who regrets what they've posted and would like us to remove their posts. Unfortunately, if there are responses to their messages, we can't always do this.

Now there are two pieces of bait in the thread. All is still not lost. Other TBNers, more often than not, get the thread back on track. However, sometimes others hop on the bandwagon and think they will convince others of the righteousness of their position by just one more post. Warning signs are posts that are filled with quotes from other messages which are then refuted ("Here's what I really meant...." or "You're wrong because...") Threads like this can go on for a while and can remain relatively civil. Sometimes they get back on track. If they don't, they get moderated.

2. Threads that start with a topic forbidden by TBN guidelines.
This is not a good thread gone bad that might be saved. This is a thread that has no where to go but downhill so it gets moderated as soon as one of the moderators sees it, or is notified about it.

I am really impressed with the vast majority of the citizens of TBN-ville who are civil and follow the Terms Of Service and the Forum Rules. You are what makes this virtual village a nice place to live and learn! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Even though I have only met a few of you face to face, I feel as if you're all my neighbors, who are just a keyboard away!

Re: Truly Neutral Thread

Mike,

I know that the proper response is often an eloquent silence, but darn that's hard to manage sometimes. Which, I suppose, is why we have moderators!

Hey! I know! How about a new emoticon to symbolize "eloquent silence" , so we could be both good and smug?
