We're working on... Have been working on... Still working on... a new tractor database section that will aggregate content by tractor make and model.

The purpose and vision is to organize content, and add more useful content about every tractor that is discussed on TBN.

The database page for each tractor has pulled together:

  • Discussion threads
Each model page will have a sort-able list of the discussion threads related to that tractor.

  • Photos
    Photos of the tractor.

  • Reviews
User reviews with ratings and photos.

  • Owner Pages
TBN members can create "owner pages" for their tractor that will include photos, information, updates, and comments about their tractor.

  • Specifications (future plans but already programmed in)

The easiest way to see how this comes together is by checking out an example page (which has a lot of content, but not owner pages):

You can browse the full list of models by clicking "Database" in the navigation.

You can post reviews, photos, or owner pages by going to the model page for your tractor, or by clicking the "quick owner page" or "quick review" links in the navigation.

Your owner pages are accessible on your public forum profile. Your owner page will list all of your threads about that model, automatically (so long as they are tagged, which is an ongoing process). Owner pages will also show your review of an item, and photos. Members can create multiple owner pages if they own multiple tractors.

We have added 30,000+ threads and 11,000+ reviews (from our old reviews section), plus thousands of photos, to get things started. We will periodically tag all new threads with the appropriate make and model to keep the model pages updated with all related threads. New reviews and owner pages as they get posted will continuously add to the knowledge base for each tractor.

Since this feature is very much a public beta, we expect some bugs and ongoing improvements, and welcome feedback and reports of bugs. You may see some test content here and there, so bear with us while "under construction." Having said that, most features should work.

Wow, have you taken on a monumental task!

My knowledge (such as it is) is limited to Massey Ferguson GC series tractors. I did not see a listing for GC1723E (and EB) nor GC1725M (and MB) models. They could easily be lumped together as they are very similar. Likewise, GC1705, GC1710, and GC1715 probably are similar. And GC2300, GC2310, GC2400, and GC2410 probably are similar. Actually, you could probably lump all the GC's in a single grouping.

I also noticed that many models are listed with as MFxxxx, and that may or may not be redundant.

Thanks, and good luck.

I click on link..."not enough permission to access this feature". I'm using the app on Android if that matters. Sounds like a promising feature though!

There are definitely some inconsistencies in the database at the moment, especially on models that we don't have threads or reviews for. In some cases a single letter added to the end of a model might not justify an entirely separate listing, as you mentioned.

We will probably need to ask for some help from subject matter experts when it comes to keeping the database clean and up to date. Every year there are usually a few new models added.

The MFxxxx models are that way due to the way we imported items. Long story short, some need to be cleaned up to avoid this redundancy. Same for JD models.

Try on a browser and see if it loads.

Would it help if thread titles had anything to do with including the make or model of the tractor and/or the actual issue vs hiding them in a brand or topic sub-forum? What good is a one or two-word title anywhere else?

IMO, most thread titles on TBN are laughable for being over-simplified, so they may be discovered only on "today's posts" vs EVER searchable, but darned if some don't include enough info to actually be searched and find help.

When Google puts your query/topic/title on the first page you did right. BTDT and couldn't offer help otherwise. lol Members, get your keywords right and btw, fish for new ones here that know and respond to what you were asking about but can actually tell.

We are working on creating an ai classifier that will read the first post of a thread and identify which tractor, if any, the thread is about. Then it will tag the thread and that thread will be linked to the model page. Human error be darned.

Awesome. This will be a really nice site feature. I do remember the old owner review pages. This takes it to the next level.

oh, as expected, the migration of the old database to the new has all of the messed up tractor models in the Yanmar section.

Yanmar models have a 2 or 3 letter prefix to a model. Some omit this.
Some of the model names are just YANMARXXXX as a tractor model. This doesn't even exist.

There will be needed clean up in many of these tractor sections to be more precise and consistent.

One of the more unknown, but excellent tractor places loaded with detail is FANDOM.
Yanmar
They too have the very same vision you are aiming for.
It is the WIKI of off road machines. They cover so many brands, many I never even heard of.

FANDOM also does a cross of the machine manufacture making machines for others too. This way the content is not lost.

Being the Yanmar forum administrator/owner of,

I could lend valuable assistance to help clean the Yanmar section up.

If you'd like to be the Yanmar moderator, that would be great. We can discuss more via private message.
