Could you hire 3 more of them part time to equal on full-timer?

That's awesome that you have a multi-generational business. It's wonderful for your family and for the employees. The place where I work is family owned, is being run by the 2nd generation and is a great place to work. The atmosphere is much better than working for a publicly traded corporation like I've done in the past.

I was thinking the same thing I'd be looking for something like it when I am 62!

We have gave him some pretty rough jobs this week and he has done well. We saw his welding skills today for the first time and was impressed. Ken Sweet

Thanks for the update Ken.

I feel that since we all suggested hiring him, we kind of have a stake in it too.

One of the best equipment mechanics I ever hired was a 19 year old welder. We struggled a bit with him being on time at first but once we got through that it was good. The best equipment mechanic I ever hired, we recruited out of the local community college from their automotive program. He was the only automotive mechanic that I have seen make the transition to equipment without it being a struggle. Both just happened to be Eagle Scouts.

We also had a good experience with a Eagle Scout. He was home schooled and when he was around 16 his Dad brought him by and asked if I would mentor him. Pay was not even discussed. We taught him all the skills needed to work in the shop and he caught on very quickly. We paid him the same hourley rate as anyone else. He was always on time and worked hard. After 3 years, he quit and got married, started a Christian music band and is now touring in a big bus up and down the east coast and some in the midwest. He is a very talented young man and a good Christian as well. Ken Sweet

The Flintstones cartoon series had Fred working in the local rock quarry and his wife's name was Wilma. When things were not going right he would scream out Wil----Maaaaaa. Ken Sweet
