1983 Ford 1700, 4WD, 770 Loader, Woods backhoe, Woods brush hog,etc.
Continuing my big "tune up" maintenance, and today is oil change day, but not finding this oil filter noted above. A regional tractor parts shop says there's a New Holland number (but they didn't want to give out the number and for $38 (shipped) I thought I'd see if anyone here knows where I can get a filter (or 3 so I have spares).

Not sure if it's correct but one search said that a Baldwin B295 will work.

Thanks for any inputs you can share.

Jay

Here Ya go Jay,

Wix 5152 is right filter for 1700. It will set you back just under $8 and it is a really good quality.

Fram PH2825 is also compatible, for around $6 from Wally World. Not as good a quality like Wix but ain't so bad in a pinch if you change oil regularly. I do mine every 50 hrs so the oil really is never that bad... just cheap insurance.

Now just feel free to sliiiiiiide right up on to here to Massatucky from Kansas and help me remove/clean my Hydro filter :ROFLMAO: . Just put in the new lines and about to drain fluid. Just watched video on the filter removal/clean --- woohoo. Fun. Time to order gaskets. Can't wait to finish this awesome 1700. She's overdue.

Hah. The Wix 51512 filter is out of stock on Amazon, OReilly Auto.... Looks like it's on some smaller sites - I just usually like going with larger businesses.... Same deal on the gaskets for the hydro filter. Yeeesh

That's so funny jay, many years ago I helped out a guy about 2 hrs from KC and he was so appreciative. I told him over the weekend I am driving my son to college about 1 hr from his place. He sent me message that, he'll have a cold 6-pack ready for me if I stop by. Told him that I don't drink and he replied quickly " you would not pass a T-bone, would ya???". I said heck no:cool::cool: . I can help you out as you do your service. Give a bit of TLC to your 1700 and she'll serve you well.

That's awesome. Yeah, I'm a big fan of helping friends - 'cause I love fixing machines. Plus, then you have a fleet of chums who're happy to chip in and lend a hand when you need it. I know I'll get there - a lot of this is "first time" stuff. Doing all the hydro lines seemed straight forward. Wondering how I'm gonna drain EVERY bit of the current old fluid out - what about the stuff out in the lines by the bucket. A lot dripped out already, and I can't imagine there's too much that will be left after pulling drain plug on Tranny and Rear Axle, hydro filter... Ordering those gaskets etc. now. Then engine oil/filter, fuel, may clean/inspect injectors. Need to do air filter.... A bunch of hopefully straightforward tasks - then brush hog the property, then put on back hoe to help a friend dig trench. Yeeeehaw.

Good. Give us some specs on your rig. You use the term "Hydro", do yo mean hydro static transmission? My 1700 has oil filled drum air filter. My 1700 is 1979 and you have a newer one but are you sure you have paper media air filter? I would make sure my loader bucket is all the way back re-tracted to return as much to tank or diffy. What gasket are you talking about? the inlet screen has a gasket and if you are not too rough it can be reused. The o-rings for hyd supply line can all be reused as they can come out easily without damage. for sure you need to vacuum the bottom of diffy thru screen inlet as you will have a lot of muck there. Pictures will be good for if you have specific questions. Just take your time, one thing you want to make sure is not to damage the hyd pump as that would be a costly mistake.

PS. just read about the "clean/inspect" the injector. Like they say " no good deed ever goes unpunished ". if the tractor is starting and running I would not mess with the injector. My 1300 hr used,40 yr old tractor had never had an injector removal. All I have done there was to bleed the air out by only loosening the nut at fuel to injector twice when I ran out of diesel. That does not require injector removal.

Wowsers, glad you brought this stuff up. I keep saying "Hydro" short for "Hydraulic lines" & such. I don't know if it has a hydro static transmission. How can I tell. (Never been much of a tranny guy).

I have an '83 4WD and an oil air filter. Never seen one before and sadly, ain't checked it since this wonderful machine was bestowed upon me by my neighbor who's hubby - who loved this machine - passed away unexpectedly about 8 years ago. Bucket is flat on the ground. Yeah, I'm talking about the same gaskets you mention. I figure best to have new ones, but, if for some reason everything comes off eazy peazy, maybe I can indeed re use. You definitely lost me on the "you need to vacuum the bottom of diffy thru screen inlet".... I'm not taking the bottom off of something, am I? Just drain screw(s) and that hydraulic filter. "Screen inlet"? Do tell.

I'll definitely send pics - and thanks again JC

If you have gear shifters then you ain't got hydro transmission. My rigg is a geared but not synchronized, meaning you cannot change the gears on the fly as you do with manual car transmission.

RIP.
The black cylinder thingy there is an air filter. it does have a bowl on the bottom that you fill with clean oil. Air is peculated thru the oil media , gets scrubbed and intake will have clean air. Every year or so you take the bottom bowl out, discard the oil and bunch of dirt, clean , put some clean oil back in the bowl and you are in business. Never need more than that.

There is a screen in the diffy attached to where the discharge form the pump (the fatter pipe ) connects to right side of the diffy. That needs to be removed to have access to the screen. Once screen is removed then you have a hole on the side of diffy that you can vacuum the floor with a shop vac. in order too avoid getting oil in to my shop vac I made a collection system same as what is used in dentist office or hospital OR. I have pics here. Ask question if you have.

Follow suction line from the pump to this fitting below. The banjo needs to be removed and then 4 bolts to withdraw the screen. The hole is where you go in to clean the bottom of diffy. Now , I don't know how many people actually have done that but when I did it I removed more than 2 quarts of mushy black muck out of there.

This the condition of the oil when I did it. I think it was probably the first time it was done.

i use all my resources, all my boys shared the same baby tub for bathing when they were under 1 yr old. I have not given u on that yet:D

when I removed the drain from the bottom of diffy, nothing came out as the hole was blocked with crap. Made a hook thingy from clothes hanger and shoved it thru the hole and when I pulled it out a dead rat looking glob came out. That's what I removed and then vaccu sucked and cleaned the bottom of diffy thru the howl I withdrew the screen.
