My local TSC has a new brand of red painted medium duty rotary cutter named Tritan. They are painted red and built by a company named Kodiak.

I have a 50 HP JD and I need to upgrade by 5ft bush hog to a 7ft. I mostly cut fields and 3 to 1 acre lots.

The Tritans appear more robust than the old yellow KingCutter brand and they have 5 - 7 foot sizes on the lot.

Have any of you TBN users had experience with the Kodiac Tritan sold at Tractor Supply. If so, will this cutter do the job without flying into pieces after I hit a rock or a dirt mound?

Thanks,
ArkLaTexSam

My local TSC only carries the kingcutter brand. If you end up buying one post your opinions of it. Maybe I can get them to order one. I just don't trust the kingcutter for what i'll be putting it through.

Thanks for your response. I don't trust the KK brand either. Whatever brand I purchase will be used for tall grass. I will keep my MX5 for saplings and thick brush. From the looks of it, the Titan is built better than the KK.

I will try to post some pictures after I revisit TSC again. Was hoping someone had experience with the Kodiac Tritan rotary cutter (bushhog) and could give their review of it.

with 50hp.. I think I'd go to a twin spindle 8' mower.

I've seen kodiak mowers.. but not any named tritan. My opinion was that they looked generally the same as KK and howse.. then again.. that was the straight kodiak name...

Thank's for your suggestion. That is an option I didn't think about. I'm going to make some calls and see what the price tag is on a Woods 8' dual spindle cutter. I have approximately 8 cutting jobs that keep me busy during grass season plus I always pick up a one timer (once a year) job which can be as big as 20 acres. I think I can make application with a dual spindle cutter and save the tuff jobs for the MX5.

I have a 6' Kodiak rotary cutter that is rated at standard duty. I use it on an 8 acre pasture. It runs smoothly and seems well balanced--have had no trouble with it at all. As I recall, the heavier duty versions offer more support structure and larger shafts. Get the model that works best for your needs. Mike.

I looked at Kodiac before I got a deal on a Kingkutter. The standard duty unit looked about the same as the KK . The HD model was very nice but it was almost double the cost. I like my KK and would probably buy another if it came down to it.

I bought a Woods 8' cutter last year and it was $4200..... so just so know those cutters don't come cheap.

You can buy the heavy King Kutter rotary cutter instead of the Kodiak from TSC if you just ask (special order). They are heavy, well made cutters. TSC only carries the cheapest model of King Kutter b/c a lot of the public want it. Kodiak is a small company in east Tennessee. From what I've seen of their equipment (and I've seen alot).... Not very impressive. Poor welds. Piss poor gearboxes. Just not a whole lot going for it all around. I would steer clear, but if you already bought it, I hope it works well for you. If you don't use it much, it probably will be fine.
