Thanks, Leonard for your help. I have the motor down to the block to change head gasket and noticed one of the cylinders was dry (it actually had a dusty film on side of cylinder wall). Could this be a injector problem? I had thought that my problem was a blown head gasket causing overheating. Now, I'm thinking no fuel to that dry cylinder was overworking engine and causing it to overheat? Before putting back together, I going to have head checked and intall new gasket. What is the best way to check injector?

Most diesel engine repair shops have a testor to test the injector opening pressure or take them to an injector pump shop & they will test for pressure & spray pattern. I'd recommend the injector pump shop .

A blowen head gasket could cause combustoin gases to go in to cooling system and cause over heating. If water is gitting into cylender it could cause the dust look you are talking about. Look for crack in cylender and head.

 Larry, you were right, had the head checked and it is cracked. Len, do you carry or have access to a used or new head. If so, how much am I looking at to get this little monster repaired. If it is too much I'm going to make a lawn orniment out of it. Your comments are appreciated.

Looking for new or refurbished head for this tractor. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Gelled fuel filter or just dirty will make it run like crap and start hard. Shouldn't make it run hot tho. Don't let run out of fuel either, it's a real pain to bleed the system.
When trying to start it any heat is good heat. I run a lower radiator hose heater, magnetic block heater, and a battery heater. Up here we see 20 below frequently. Fuel additive to boost the C-tane and prevent jelling helps as well. The lower radiator hose heater is a PIA to install, and a freeze plug heater is the way to go, IMHO.
Overheating: the only time mines had overheating issues was due to blocked air flow. Twice from hay chaff blocking the radiator while bush-hogging, and once from cardboard I put there during a real cold spell. Try hosing out the radiator fins. If all else fails, try checking the thermostat and if that's not it, have the radiator flushed.

Somewhere, a long time ago, I posted a list of parts suppliers. Try a search under my name if no one comes up with a head for you.

Going to put this little fellow back together in the next few days. Having head pinned (cracked), new glow plugs, injectors cleaned with new heads. Looking for any tips to help with the rebuild? Hope to have running by the end of next week. Thanks in advance.
