If its not too late, I suggest you mount the gate such that a horse pushing on it will not allow it to open. I.e: push it against a jamb. Too many horse operators set it up such that a loose horse will push through the latch, chain, tie or catch. Then the horse is out or worse, the horse gets injured when the gate gets crashed. Same for fencing. Why do folks put boards and wire on the outside of posts? All an animal has to do is lean on it and it's through. If you want the neighbors to admire your fence, put boards on both sides.
