Tundra vs. Chevy

Dodge got it almost right but it's hard to tow 9200 when you can even put 800 lbs in the bed of a loaded crew cab.

Well I want to the Toyota dealership here by the house and looked at all the tundra's they had and brought a demo model home and hooked the trailer to it...the tundra handled the load well with about 7500 lbs behind it...I was actually surprised at the stability it had when pulling the load and stopping...I can only imagine that it will handle better with my gooseneck instead of the bumper pull I was using...I'm going to check out a silverado later on in the week and see how the two compare...

I would get the Tundra as long as you are towing 10,000 lbs or under. Make sure your trailer has electric brakes.
If you are over 10,000 lbs then look at the Ford or Chevy 3/4 ton trucks and maybe a diesel options.
I also agree have the dealer take the truck to you house an tow your trailer. You will tell what one works best.

It will be under 10k towing with the half ton for sure...anything above that I have my 2500 duramax that I will use for any heavier loads

Yep. We now have 3 of the Eco Diesels at work. 600 miles on a tank of fuel is impressive and the ride is nice but that where it ends. They are fine for 5000# but after that the lack of power really shows and put anything in the bed and you can see it.

This is the case with all the new 1/2 tons. They are more capable than the 3/4 ton gas models of a dozen years ago. I'm constantly impress with our 2012 Ecoboost and the 5 others in my family, all 2012, 2013, and 2015 models.

I'm sure you know already, but be careful with the gooseneck, as it will load the truck heavier than a bumper pull. This may be your limiting factor, not the towed amount of weight, but actual payload.

We never thought we would buy a Toyota truck until we drove one a few weeks ago, it drives and handles great. Went with a new 2015 Tundra Double Cab. We looked at everything before settling on the Tundra. Chevy 1/2ton's are assembled in Mexico with some major drivetrain parts from Mexico, Ford $2-4K higher than everyone. Chevy and Dodge were coming in around $48-52K MSRP pretty much equipped the same as the Tundra. Even drove the RAM Eco-Diesel but it seemed a bit weak for us. The Tundra stickered at $42K with their added paint protection crap and stuff, got them down to $36K. It has their 5.8L V8. Got close to 1000 miles on it and so far averaging 16.4mpg, no load, with combined driving. Would have been towing calves to the sale barn today but the darn NCDOT hasn't came through with our weighted tag yet, used the '02 Chevy Tahoe Z71 instead as usual.

16.4 mpg is exactly what I'm getting with my Tundra for everyday city/highway driving which is 99% of my use. It drops down to about 8 mpg hauling my 9,000 lb load which only happens a few times a year.

My 2001 Ford E350 5.4L gets about 14 empty on the highway and about 8-10 towing 8-10K (depending on wind and trailer type) . Ill have to upgrade at some point, the van has 200K+ on it.... Unless i want a ford EB, i guess i sit and watch what comes of the new generation for fuel millage....
