turbo & engine oil

If it's a diesel rated engine oil then it's safe for a turbo engine. Where you have to be careful is with gas engine oils. Like was mentioned above most diesels have a turbo and the oil is formulated for use as such.

Check the owners manual for suggested rating and it will tell you what rating to use. Rotella 15W40 and synthetic are both rated diesel turbo. It won't say it; you have to read the ratings. From the mentions of Pennzoil and Castrol gas engine oils steer clear of these things--read the ratings and know they are for gas engines and likely not rated diesel.

Motor Oil Grades and Service Ratings

The above sheet should give all the ratings onfo anyone needs. Note the newer diesel oils actually have a shorter change interval with high sulphur fuel and also know there are newer/additional ratings than shown. I am sorry this is off an Amsoil site but it was the best info I could find. For a disclaimer I am not involed with Amsoil, strongly dislike it's marketing strategy and do not use it's products. That is my personal opinion.

Other mentioned comments regarding "cool-down" of a turbo is good advice. You need a warm-up as well and cool down is especially important if the tractor is being worked really hard like pulling a lot of plow bottoms. Also be careful towing if wind can enter the exhaust stack and spin the bearing with no oil. Hauling the tractor backwards usually works or just cover the stack.
In 20 years of turbos I have never had any probs with them. Lots of power and engines run quieter.
