Not to insult the OP, but it sounds like you bought the wrong tractor for the job. Maybe just a little practice with your grader and you will find it will do the job. I'm sure you could turbo the thing, but like so many others have said, at what cost? I've heard the saying that you can get so much power out of an engine, the question is do you want that power all in one day or over a period of years.

One thing to keep in mind, a diesel engine without a turbo is kind of a dog. What they do to tractors up to a certain point, is put in a bigger engine. Its cheaper to do this than add a turbo. As you start getting into bigger tractors and engines, its cheaper to add a turbo to get the power you want. What small non turbo diesel engines are good at is making power for a long period of time. You could hook your tractor up to a PTO generator and run that thing at 90% power for hundreds of hours and it will take it. Try that on a gas engine.

I'd be trying to find out what is wrong with the tractor instead of throwing a turbo on it. Most of the time a turbo engine will have different pistons and oil jets to cool the pistons. If your tractor is "gutless" either it ain't right or you are asking too much of the unit. My little 2710HST amazes me at the way it will pull for such a small tractor.

Explain how adding more intake air without adding more fuel is a good thing? They will lean out, no?

A diesel does not have a throttle plate so at idle or a low RPM by your theory it would be lean.

Some of this has already been said but I will reiterate it.

Your tractor should spin the tires before it runs out of power in this situation. If you are running out of power you have a problem.

A 8' grader with 2 sets of rippers is too big for your tractor. I would get a 6' before I turbocharged the tractor and void the warranty on it.

For heavy grading you should be in Low range, Low on the dual speed. For lighter stuff you may be able to use medium range low on the dual speed.

I would use one row of rippers on go down the hill. You can raise the the rippers and grade going back up after it is loosened up enough.

The tractor may do better with stall guard off, you will have to play with it.

I would use the auto throttle advance or keep it revved up to at least 2300 RPM.

OK.... Sorry to have contributed to the "9 pages"

I will reiterate. I am asking for help sizing and planning.

Here it is, solved. Now, 'GET 'ER DONE'. Your local Kubota industrial engine dealer is Engine Distributors Inc, 1-800-220-2700. You can buy the complete engine, or the parts required, from them. Watch you coolant temperature, raditor and fan will not be up to task of additional heat load put into the coolant. No one like Banks makes a kit for this engine, demand for kit does not equal time and cost to design. Good luck. Philip.

If it's a POS, why even bother?
Why'd you buy a hydro in the first place?
Seems like you're going far out of your way to monkey with a POS when you could probably get close to what you paid back out of it.

Fred, couldnt you just buy a manifold set for and turbo for the bobcat machine and instsll it instead of having to build one? We added turbos to a JD 4020 and a IH 966 years ago. Did not turn up the fuel on either tractor and they both seemed to have slightly more power and a greatly improved gal per hour fuel usage. They both ran for years with no issuse.
