Aerator's don't remove thatch, Dethatchers do. Pine straw rakes work, as do other dethatchers. I have the CMP 50" unit: CMP 3-Point Dethatcher. Works great.

This submission from Gittyup struck me as sensible and antedates your similar suggestion. I am still intending to buy Core Aerator from ETA. Unless someone offers a better suggestion I think I will buy one of CMP's Three Point mounted dethatchers. CMP replied to an e-mail today, that 60" dethatcher weighs 44 pounds, so around 80 pounds combined with 3-Pt components. I can strap on my 68", 88 pound, Ratchet Rake for make-weight if necessary.

I do not want to rent. I would have to haul a rental machine in a Subaru Forester and at 67 years, in Florida heat, that is too much. I prefer to have UPS or a Common Carrier deliver to my driveway.

I like to try new suppliers. Therefore dethatcher from CMP, rather than Pine Straw Rake from ETA. (I have purchased three satisfactory implements from ETA in the past.)

Still, however, OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS.

Here are some pics of my psr in action. I have it set up for the IMatch now so that adds some extra weight. I use the crap out of this thing for raking needles as well as smoothing and covering seed. Would not want to be without one.

I like those really long tines. One problem I have is that the JD hitch on my x739 doesn't really go all the way to the ground. This limits tine penetration on the CMP because my ground is quite bumpy. This is really a limitation of the tractor not the implement. But, the long tines on the pinestraw rake wouldn't have the same problem. And a CUT with a hitch that touches the ground it wouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, I used my CMP today. It worked fine. Tired of sitting on the tractor though. Went over my 2 acres 4 times today: cut, vacuum, dethatch twice, vacuum again. Took 8 hours, stopping on every circle to empty my small vacuum. Aerator, lime, seed, compost top coat tomorrow..... if it doesn't rain.

I considered input over the three day weekend.

Ordered a CMP Dethatcher today. Will fool with the CMP for awhile, then-------

Order a core/plug aerator, with (Temporarily blocked due to reports of company closure) the probable vender.

I will post a review on the CMP Dethatcher after I have several dethatching sessions, with the turf in both damp and dry conditions.
