Tires turf tires for 1401D

I have a 1401D that has it original rice tires. They tear the !%X@! out of my property. I would appreciate any sugestions for replacment turf tires you might have. If you have any links where I can purchase them that also would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. PS, has anyone fabricated a ROP for this model they would share a picture of ? Thanks, again Dan

I know that you are some distance from TN but there is a company here that can order the turf tires. Tucker tire in Dyersburg TN. You may want to call them and get information. The tires that they ordered for me are Firestone 8x16 rear. The front is the problem. My had 10 inch and I couldn't find that size so I bought 12 inch rims and found 5 rib implement tires. The company in Dyersburg phone is 731 285 8520 and ask for Buddy. Another source is H&W Equipment in Dickson TN. Their number is 615 740 8868. The tires are available but some tire dealers just don't want to go to the trouble of odering them.

LT 265/75R16 truck tires on rear and 155R12 snow tires on the front. Sounds crazy but it will work!

I agree with hosejockey. I bought a pair of used Michelin LT265/75-16 tires for $10 from a local ag tire dealer. Plenty of tread for my use, though not nearly the width of real turfs. Of course the 8x16 turfs are no wider. I plan to get another set of rims to mount the rice tires for winter use. The 155R12's I haven't done yet as the rears were the real problem. We'll see how the fronts do in the spring.

Oh, and be careful of tire size when replacing on a 4x4. You can't just change wheel and/or tire size. You need to keep the same ratio of loaded radius for front vs rear to avoid driveline windup.

although my rears say 8X16 the rim really is 17.5" on the outside and the fronts are 13" on the outside. My chevy 2500 truck has 16' wheels and they look a lot smaller. Are the wheels measured somewhere on the inside? Will auto tires really fit? They sure dont look like they will. Thanks, Dan

Sure they will fit. I gave all 4 off my Ford 4x4 to customers for turf tires.

Yep, we have put 16" pickup tires on as well, they work great. Rim diameter is measured at the bead seating area, so it is usually and inch or so smaller than the outside of the rim.
