Kubota L2501
Hi all. I just bought a Kubota L2850 and it came with turf tires (I like them around the yard) but, I would like some R4's. The turf tires are: rears 355/80-20 and the fronts are 212/80-15. I don't know how that converts to the sizes I am finding in the R4's. Is it possible to put R4's on the same rims or will I need new rims?
Thanks,
David
FYI the turf tires have seen better days :(

Doubt the rims are any different. I had turfs on my 4010 and had R4s on the 1025R and now R4s on the 2025R. The rims don't appear to be any different width.

R4s are a lot tougher for FEL work, but they have very little side grip. They'll mark up your yard less simply because they won't grip much in turning. Your L should have turning brakes; so that shouldn't be a problem. They turn fine in dry conditions.

I'd consult something like the Carlyle (sp?) tire site for guidelines on rim width and/or R4s to fit your rims.

I think the best tire would be a high ply turf. Kinda think the front turfs I eventually put on the 4010 were a higher ply. R4s are a tad scary on a side slope. They slip sideways. Gotta allow for that in going across a side slope between a couple posts or other side things in the way that could hang you up when reversing.

There is no way R4s are going to make less of a mess on a yard than R3s...really wonder sometimes.....

Do you plan on putting rear tire chains on L2850?,if so you'll need wheel spacers.

Thanks for the replies.
I understand that the R4's won't make less of a mess, I intend to take the tractor in the woods to get some firewood out hence the reason for wanting a tougher better gripping tire. I may just keep the R3's and do the chains.

I swapped the turf tires on my old L245 and in my opinion it worked better all around from loader work to grass cutting. I had less slip on hills and better traction everywhere. If you have hills, wet grass and no load the R4s turn way better in 2wd than the turf tires in 4wd. If you have a heavy load in the bucket with 4wd engaged and making sharp turns it does tear up the ground more. On light tractors on firm ground there are no tear up issues. Wet soggy soil will tear up - and turf tires leave skid marks.

You don稚 need new rims the dealer will find you tires to fit. Get higher ply tires if you use the loader.

$2000!!!!!! Wow, and I thought the green paint was the expensive color, yellow cost even more!!!

I would guess JD and kubota would not fit each others (but I've been wrong before :D)

Also, ask your dealer, pretty sure you need to change the rim and tire... chains and turf are a pretty good match.

Also, there is a reason, they don't sell R4's on 2 wheel drive tractors.

New rims to go with the R4's.

I have used ags, R4's, and turfs. If you are going in the woods and want a better grip, get the ag tires. IMO, there is not much more 'bite' with R4's over turfs. Ags, on the other hand, make a big difference. I have almost gotten stuck in a muddy dip with R4s, spinning and spinning my way out in 4wd. The tractor behind me with ag's in 2wd didn't spin a wheel. Made a believer out of me.
