Gee, I know I've parsed this exploration into a bunch of different posts, but here I go.

Looking at a Deere 2210 or Kubota BX2200. The good news is that my wife thinks its a great idea because she will use the machine for her gardening and landscaping, and it means she is less likely to kill herself than if she used my 3010. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I know turf tires are good for turf (all that schooling did pay off), but they have a thinner tread and may not be so great in the garden or when using the FEL.

I think bar tires won't destroy the lawn unless you really work on it. In fact, though I don't mow my lawn with my 3010, I don't think I've done permanent damage with that much heavier machine and R4s.

Any comments? Am I missing something?

Boustany,

I have turfs on my B2410. I have had only a handful of traction problems in the 3 years I have it. I bush hog all kinds of terrain, till a large garden, mow a large lawn, use the FEL for lots of gravel/dirt/etc moving and move a fair bit of snow in the winter. My few traction issues were around packed snow/ice which without chains any tire will have.

Got to say that Bars have a certain /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif factor about them that turfs don't. But I don't have any of the complaints about turfs & traction that some others seem to.

I doubt that with a smaller tractor and the bars you'd be ripping lawn unless it was pretty wet and you were turning sharply.

I'd say you'll be fine with either tire.

/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif factor, eh?

Well, I have to think of appearances - this'll be the wife's tractor, yah know.

WHICH tire does she like? either will do fine , but i think i would lean toward the bar tires.

My 4210 has non-loaded turfs and the traction on hardpack dirt and snow is excellent. As 90% of my operating hours are mowing time I never need the additional traction bar tires would provide, but I do feel bar treads give a more aggressive look to a tractor. Unless you have a really smooth lawn I doubt if bar tires would mark it up much.

I've ran my tractors ( with ag tires )all over my pasture and front yard, and have only printed in in areas that were just dirt.

In fact, I do have a Ford NAA with turf tires on it, and it is similar in weight and HP to my NH 1920 with ag tires on it. I once used it with the box blade to push up the maneuer pile, and was spinning tire due to lack of traction. I had to switch to the NH 1920 to finish pushing up the pile. I was actually doint more damage to the edge of the grass around the pile due to the spinning.
And these weren't small turf tires either.. they had a good amount of ground contact.. they were 16.9 x 24's

I'll post a pic

Good news, boustany. If you choose the 2210, JD now offers R4s as an option.
