I tried out my 1000 2wd with turfs in the snow today. I have a FEL and also a heavy duty 6' rear blade and it just spun on a gravel drive that I cleaned with another tractor. I need the diff lock to get it up a small incline to get it back into the garage. Has anyone had experience with adding chains to these type of turfs? From what I understand chains can be rather expensive and I want to make sure this type of tire (wide and round) could benefit.

Those tires look just like what is on my Mitsu.
I have standard ladder chains every 3rd link and they work just great.
Mine are ice chains with welded 'v's' on the links.

On a much smaller toy tractor with turfs I had ladder chains with v bars that were used for winter work. They worked well for me.:D

Also had ladder type chains on turfs...tad smaller tires than yours...they work great, and not just during the winters months.

Chains and weight make the difference.

I use to switch from turf tires to a set of ag tires with chains when I put the snow blade on my old Cub lo-boy. One year, being a little lazy, I put the chains on the turf tires instead of changing wheels and tires. I was amazed at how much better the simple ladder chains worked on the turf tires. The ag wheels/tires have been setting in the barn for years now.

Most of the tire chains sold for garden tractors are simple side chains with straight cross chains. Those tractors almost universally have turf tires on them. I used to put the chains on for all snow removal work and for plowing the garden too! What I'm getting at is, don't be afraid to use chains on your turf tires ! As was also mentioned earlier, wheel weights also help alot ...

I have a 1300 Ford with the same type of turf tires. I have ladder chains that I use in the winter when I snowblow my driveway. They work great. So far this winter we have had over 140 inches of snow so it gets been getting a workout. I have a 60 inch rear three point hitch blower.
