Turkey\'s - They bea hatchn

Out doing some FEL work last night in the fields and found we have 6 turkey hens that have nested (at least I only found 6 out of the 21 which roost in the edge of my woods/field). So far only 2 of the nests have hatched out, though given size of the poults could only have been in last day or two. Am anxious to see how many make it through this summer....surviving the coyotes, foxes, neighbor's dogs, weather and man. As fawning season is soon to start, looks like my BH is over for next couple of months....though the kids always enjoy the 'new borns' show.

Almost hit a fawn on Tuesday while bush-hogging at my shop. And this is right in the middle of the village! The little fella was only about a day old. It just layed there and didn't move untill I tried to pick it up to place it in the woods. It jumped up and went in on its own!

Got home this evening after making the other post, took the daughter out for a 4-wheeler ride and came upon 2 fawns. One had just been birthed (doe was still lying down with it & licking), the other could stand up and that was about it. Took my daughter back to the house so she could grab her camera (of course, I didn't think to tell her to grab my digital). Now I gotta scan it once developed. Nice for the kids to be able to see stuff like this, not something they got to see much when in the city. I usually don;t cut pasture from end of May until 2nd week of July as I have come too close to hitting fawns, turkey nests and quail nests.
