Had TC25D, now JD X310
Is it possible to modify something, e.g., the injection unit, on a TC25 or a TC29 to increase the horsepower to that of a TC33? If I remember my TC25 Owners Manual correctly, the three Class II Boomers all have the same engine so could a simple 'tweak' do this?

The easiest "tweak" is to call your salesman & tell him you want to trade. The new 14LA is due out soon. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I suspect that due to the Thousands of dollars difference in price, that the trans & axles are beefed up on the TC33D to handle the extra HP. While it is only 8HP it is 33% more than the 25.

Just curious, is your tractor not strong enough? Or is this a hypothetical question.

Hypothetical. The discussion about what can be done to tweak diesel truck engines prompted the thought.

Mike, as I remember, the TC29, TC30, and TC33 have the same engine displacement. The TC25 has a smaller displacement. Of course, my memory is faulty on occasion.

Steve, perhaps mike has a case of the 'bigger is better' syndrome. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

You planning to build a "puller"???? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Mike, there a number of things you can do to increase horsepower and more importantly torque .

Switch to a higher cetane rated fuel would be the easiest. Depending on which type of pump is on your engine (I don't know which one NH uses), you can increase the rail pressure or alter the injection timing. You can also install or re-machine the injectors for more flow. You can also install propane fogging and water injection. Most tractors and highway vehicles are built with at least a 50 percent margin for longevity, so a modest increase in power would be tolerated. Understand, the only item listed above that would not blow away your warranty is the increase in cetane rating.

Historically tractor companies have detuned diesel and gas engines or put the lower hp ones out first. To increase sales or to match the competition, they then increase the hp as time goes by. If you could check and verify that the transmission is the same, then what you are wanting to do is possible. Even if the tranny is different, the margin of safety that has always been built in should be more than adequate to allow for a increase of what you are wanting. You would also need to check to see if the injectors would need to be changed. I will also say that this would void your warranty.

I would not suggest this if the cubic inch of the engines are different, because it would make it more iffy from the safety margin standpoint..

The trannys are the same. The fuel injection pump is the same, The only difference is the engine block bore and the timming of the injection pump for fuel delivery.

Spencer:

As I stated above, I am not familiar with the pump or pump drive on a NH CUT. If the pump is a tang drive, the injection timing would have to be altered internally. If the pump is gear drive, you could advance the "static" timing by advancing one gear tooth. If the pump is a rotary, like a Stanadyne or Rosa Master, static timing may be advanced by a simple minute turn of the pump body. A Bosch style pump would have to advanced by the gear tooth or internal method.

According to my Operator's Manual, the 25D and the 29D have the same engine, 1.33 liters. The 33D has a 1.5 liter engine.

The only differences between the 25D and the 29D are;

TC25D Max Speed - High Idle is 2840 rpm, Rated 2600 rpm
TC29D Max Speed - High Idle is 3040 rpm, Rated 2800 rpm

So, how do I get that extra 200 rpm? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
