A friend of mine is working on an initiative to turn approximately 200 acres into a recreation/entertainment area. Is primary theme would be Old West as he intends to have an old west style town built.

He's thinking the primary use would be for reenactments (not just old west) but it could/would be used for other purposes (old west themed weddings...)

He has a bunch of Buffalo on the place now but no structures for visitors.

So, any ideas on the best way to do this? One thing I was thinking of to get the old west town started is to contact a movie studio and see if they're interested in using the land to shoot a movie. They could get structures started to meet their needs, shoot the film and leave everything. Has anyone had a movie filmed on their farm?

I'd try shop clas- er- vocational arts teachers... Could be a great project!

Brian,

Does reenacments mean Cowboy Action Shooting? If not he might want to consider building some berms along with the buildings.

Does Super 8 count? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you built props for your home movies, I'm sure it does!

You do realize that saying Super8 instead of home video, really puts a date on you.....

Oh, oh, I'm admitting I recognized the format /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like what these folks did. This place is about 20 minutes from me. It has been around for some time. Thier pool is cute; it is shaped like a western/cowboy hat.

Does the "Onion Field" count?
Or that one with Mel Gibson and those crop cicles, or the one where crooks are chasing a bounty hunter was being chased by a combine in a corn field?

BTW, on

Thanks for the posts guys.

The links to other related areas has provided some good info.

The movie Kingpin (Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid & Bill Murray) was shot about a mile up the road from me. I haven't spoken to the farmer directly but I understand he received a decent compensation for them using his land. They constructed a barn in the middle of his field (which was torn down after shooting) but soon after shooting the movie, a new dairy barn/milk parlor went in. I heard it was paid for with $ received from the movie maker.

Hobbyfarm - no fair changing "Old" to "Out"... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I don't have a time machine to have people travel to "Old". Anyway, I don't think a lot of visitors can/want to go "Out West" for a weekend trip.
