After some rough brush cutting this evening, the turtle-rabbit button does not work. The light on the fender changes back and forth like it should, but it never changes gears. It is stuck in rabbit. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

thebus,

Is the transmission in high range or just the light showing high ???

The solenoid that switches the transmission between high-low defaults to the low range position when the power is removed ( tractor off ).

If you're in low range and can't seem to switch the tractor into high, you've probably disconnected a wire. Check the fuse block, the run the wires from the switch pod under the tractor to the solenoid at the transmission. Maybe a disconnected wire ?? The light on the switch doesn't tell you what the solenoid is doing ...it just tells you the switch is flipped.

If you're in high ( all the time ) you've got a bigger problem with the solenoid. Maybe it is damaged and needs to be rebuilt-replaced.

Good Luck...Let us know what you find.

Thebus,
I had the same problem, turned out to be a little tiny piece of dirt that bound the switch ever so slightly in the low position.
Try compressed air around the switch.

I had the exact same problem after some heavy brush mowing myself. There is a connector on a wire underneath the right side that may have come loose. My local NH dealer said this is a very common problem. It always seems to happen right after you have been into some heavy brush. All you need to do is crawl under and reconnect it and then tie wrap it back up out of the way so it doesn't happen again.

Thebus, Duckhunter had the same problem and found that his Rabbit button on the joystick was stuck. TC35forme was right that if you had pulled a wire loose, your tranny should be stuck in Turtle instead of Rabbit. It takes 12 volts to the solenoid to engage the "Rabbit." Hope you find the problem soon.

Thanks for all of the responses. It was a wire pulled loose under the tractor. It was on the left side (if you are sitting on the tractor lookin forward) and underneath the tractor. I will tie up these wire soon. Thanks again for the help.
