I know there are some avs forums dedicated to this but thought I would try here first before creating an account on another forum I don't use.

We are replacing our projector with a 100" 4k tv with a refresh rate of 144hz. In looking at our current audio reciever that we use as a switch hub it supports 4k HDMI pass through of 60hz. I'm assuming it will still work fine with the new tv but curious of the benefits of moving to a 120hz reciever? Smoother video, specifically with sports? Better motion smoothing? Just curious if the upgrade is enough to justify the cost or if there would be any visual difference. Most of our viewing is streaming from a 4k firestick and no gaming.

As a followup in looking at the firestick 4k it looks like it only supports 60 hz so not sure there is any reason to upgrade at the moment with firestick being our primary viewing source?

A small fraction of folks can see motion fluctuations at 60Hz. If you aren't one of them, don't sweat it. If you are, you can probably turn on an up scaling option on the TV that may make some things better, and some things blurrier. In general, I see reports of folks who game a lot complain about it the most, with some sports fans also preferring higher frame rates.

I hope that you enjoy your new big screen, and I look forward to hearing your feedback.

All the best,

Peter
