"Maybe I'll go out and rescue an old 8N. At least those seem to still have parts available for reasonable costs and are still usable well into the future."

Not sure about the rescue thing, the N tractors seem to fetch a pretty good price /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am not really a Ford fan but the N series seem to have the most and cheapest parts available for any old tractor. It seems that any place that sells any tractor parts has 8N parts.

They do have 3 point hitch too, but the non-live PTO is a bit of a hassle. I believe some of the later hundred series that superceeded the N series had live or independant PTO's not sure about that though. Soundguy will probably know. Might get one of those someday....

There was an ad in our local paper last Sunday for a FORD 8N Tractor with 6' blade and 5' brush hog and new 7000 lb. GVW trailer. $3700. Of course, it doesn't say it is running or not /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I've seen many of them around for $2500.00 in good working order. Not pretty, but good working order.

My point is, that is a thing that lasts and can still be repaired for a reasonable cost today. Anything that requires electronics is doomed to the scrap yard sooner or later because once the supply of those components runs out it will cost too much to have someone make custom electronics than it will to scrap it. Look at older cars with a carberator and alternator. There ain't much to go wrong. Look at a '80s car with a computer. The computer croaks and it's a thousand bucks to repair a car that isn't worth $800.00, so off to the scrap yard it goes. Just awful. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

MossRoad,
Well stated, I agree with everything you said.

I finally got a hold of my brother and he says he was told the power supply is bad. He hasn't fixed it yet. If he decides to get a new one rather than fix the old one I might get it and see what I can rig in it. It would be a shame to junk it without letting *all* the smoke out first. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
