Just got a mfwd JD6415. There is some baler twine wrapped around the front hubs.
I tried to unwrap/pull it off and it just breaks. I want to get it out out before it takes out the front hub seals.
I am worried if I disassemble and disturb the seals they may start to leak anyway.
So far the seals are not leaking

Can't you cut it and then get it off one wrap at a time?

You might try a dental pick tool?
I have used those tools to get into tough places.

If the seals are not leaking now, removing the twine completely gives a better-than-even chance of making the seals leak immediately. Trim off any excess twine that can be easily removed, then leave the rest alone. And have whoever feeds hay pick up after themselves.

Just bought the tractor and it was delivered that way:mad:. No chance of picking up any more twine.

Sounds like I should just cut off what is hanging out and not disturb the seals.

Be sure to check the oil in the hubs. The oil could have already leaked out. If they are full and not leaking, I agree, just cut off the excess and leave them alone.

And if they do start leaking, I recommend adding about 20 more turns of twine wrapped very tightly around each hub!! :D

I plan to check all the fluids- Good call!

I did remove all the twine that was hanging out of the hub so it could not be pulled in.

If it were mine, it would bother me too much to leave it there. I would remove it, and if the seals leak change them out.
Just can't see that twine protecting a good seal, nor holding oil back if the seal isn't good. :confused3:

But not my call. :)

I'm right in there with "Beenthere" on this. Even if you have to take it apart, get the twine out of there.

It wears me out to see twine in a pasture. I had a guy rent my pasture for one Winter and I picked up his twine several times. If they had been my cattle there's no way I would have left it on the ground. I always worry about a cow getting it wrapped around her tongue or something. This doesn't even consider the possibility of the problems you're dealing with.
