It's also illegal in many places. It would void insurance coverage.

The multi fuel furance may also require a chimney for each different fuel.

My home had a flue from an oil furnace and a flue from a wood boiler going into the same chimney for about 30 years. Never had a problem. I have smoke and co2 detectors in the house.The oil furnace was getting old and the repairman said that if we replaced it there could only be one flue going into the chimney as it would not pass the inspection by the fire marshal.

This summer I took out the old wood boiler and replaced it with an outdoor boiler. No more wood, ash and dust in the house, We will see if it was worth it this winter when it is 30 below.

It is illegal in most locales and dangerous as well. One device can exhaust through the other device pumping CO into the living area. Also the draft from one device can cause enough suction to overdraft the other device, causing poor combustion.

I wouldn't bet my life on a $ 40.00 co detector.I have never been able to get any of the manufactures of these detectors to tell me how long the sensors are good for. I vent nat. gas furnaces & water heaters together in the same flue all the time.Not against the code. Don't know about wood & oil burning boilers.Don't see any of these down here in the so.
