Rotary Cutter Two problems with Land Pride brush cutter

Went to attach the mower today and couldn't get the pot shaft on. There are three balls that are supposed to retract in when you push the collar forward. Even when I do, they stick out enough that I can't get them over the end. Was fine last fall.

The second problem is that the PTO on the L3200 is turning even when it's supposed to be off. There is a switch on the right rear fender and the PTO turns when it is in either position. Also worked last fall, didn't use it over the winter.

Lube it up/grease it/etc. Are you sure you are getting the collar far enough back?

In terms of the PTO, is it turning all the time and turning the cutter? Or is the shaft just spinning but has no power to actually do anything? My L3650 for some reason would occasionally spin the PTO shaft when the PTO was off. If the L3200 has an electric clutch, it may need to be replaced.

Regardless, ONLY attach/remove/adjust anything near the shaft/etc. PTO shafts/attachments with the tractor off.

Already lubed, collar seems to go in all the way.

I recently bought a used Woods finish mower. I had a problem getting the PTO shaft on the tractor originally. The balls in the PTO connector had plenty of grease, but they were still somewhat sticky about retracting. I lubed them up good with Fluid Film, which is much lighter than grease, and the problem went away. You might try that if you have any Fluid Film around - apply it directly on your balls and rub them around for a while.

OK, two problems solved, one new one to go.

A little penetrating oil and the fitting snapped right on.

Although garaged all winter, the PTO cable is sticking in its housing. So once I turned it on, the cable stayed in that position even when I moved the lever. I was thinking it was minor as it wasn't doing it all winter. Pushed the actuator arm forward and all good.

Then when I started using the mower it started vibrating like crazy. All four bolts holding the gearbox to the housing are loose. Of course I don't have a large metric socket or wrenches up here, so off to the hardware store for socket and ujoint.

wow sorry to hear your having that many issues, that can get aggravating I know. Sounds as if your getting them lined out.

Found the source of the vibration: one blade was broken off! Just as well since I had to get the center disk off to tighten the gearbox bolts. Bolts for gearbox are 24mm.

Took off the cotter pin and 36mm nut. Now have to get the disk off. It doesn't look like I can get a puller on it easily. I hit the spline with some penetrating oil and have been trying to lever ot off fom behind with no apparent success.

We had to heat it up to get the center spindle off. I changed our blades a few weeks ago, and it wasn't an easy job.

Once you heated it up did you pry it off? Or what did you use?
