The dealers told me it was really good I didn’t cut the axles down. I guess many people have and it hurts the value. I thought about doing that and getting a loader for it but still it is 2WD.

It does sound like I have made up my mind to get rid of it but that isn’t the case. I love the 4440 and before I got this distant property I had zero thoughts of getting rid of it. Combined with the skid steer it is a perfect setup for what I do at my house. That being said it doesn’t get much use. Maybe four days a year of plowing and planting and shredding maybe four times a year. Yes it gets used less than ten times a year.

A tractor per implement is nuts! I'd need three! Four when I get a forestry winch. That's $200k of the OP's size tractors. With top and tilt and extendable lower links it only takes me a few minutes to change implements. It takes that long to warm up the next tractor with its dedicated implement. Maybe with 75-125hp tractors it's more work to change implements but as long as they're three point style I don't see why it would. I store my implements in the barn with some on dollies, so part of the time to swap implements is rolling stuff out of the way. Big implements are probably going to be stored outside and certainly not on dollies or with another implement in the way. So you'd just have to back up to them.

Big tractor implements are easy to hook up. They are all quick hitch. The implements are so big and heavy you can’t wrestle them around like you can small tractor implements.

I would keep the 4440. It won't depreciate anymore and some may say it will appreciate in value because it just might be the next Deere collectable tractor to have.

I currently have a 4440. It doesn’t have a loader and is two wheel drive. It also has long axles for duals and even with the duals removed is overwidth for hauling purposes. I have owned it 7 years and it has been a great machine at my house which is on 30 acres. I have a tracked skid steer I use for loader work.

I recently bought 330 acres located a little over an hour away. It has some steep terrain and MFWD is needed to get around. Needs there are shredding, blading probably ten miles of roads, cleaning up brush from when we bulldozed these roads, planting some food plots for deer. There are about 40 acres that were once farmed that are grown up now. I plan to turn some of them in to food plots but don’t envision more than 15 or so acres total of food plots. A stout loader is a must as well we feed a lot of corn and protein to the deer and are needing to move 2,000 lb pallets of feed around regularly as well as moving the heavy feeders and deer blinds around. I have been hauling my skid steer back and forth and it is often a pain as I often need to be able to lift heavy things at both places on a regular basis.

I visited with a few dealers and they are offering around 20k trade in on my tractor. A similar sized machine (but not over width for hauling purposes)with MFWD, cab, loader, and a hydro shuttle is going to run around 60k. Alternatively I could buy a smaller machine outright for around 40k. Same out of pocket cost either way.

Trying to decide if I should trade in my 4440 and have one larger machine or keep it and buy a smaller machine?

If I had one larger machine I would likely need to haul it back and forth some but not a lot. This I guess would be viewed as a con but a pro would be it would be more capable in every way. A smaller machine would likely get left at the distant property full time.

I’m intentionally leaving brands out of this but the smaller tractors I am looking at are in the 75 HP range and the larger ones are in the 125HP range.
75 is a little on the light side for moving 1 ton skids around in any kind of environment. Running tractors back and forth is a PIA. You can shorten/whack off the axles and if you want and Koyker makes loaders for more in the $5k region, delivered to your farm for a reasonable price, to fit your 4440....a great workhorse and fine Soundguard Cab....I had one on my 4020 (96 hp) with an 8' bucket on it and it did fine......but mine didn't have the Skid Steer quick attach bucket (30 years ago) and I'd surely want that. I am a multi tractor guy since I work alone and no way will I only own only one......like fishing boats....one just won't cover all the bases!

After much thought I decided the 4440 is going. I removed the duals and brought the front wheels in so I could get it on a trailer and cleaned it up. I have owned it seven years and put only 150 hours on it. Can’t really justify owning two. I’m not sure what I will be buying to replace it with yet but something with a cab, loader, and MFWD
