TYM 10 Series Lubrication

Considering going to synthetics with my next round of changes on my 2810HST. No experience with these products. Would appreciate any thoughts, experiences, reccomendations, mines to avoid, etc.

If you would like to use some real premium oil in your 2810 get some Schaeffer's Supreme 7000 synthetic blend 15W40 moly oil. It is a premium quality oil with moly in it which cuts down the friction. The product really proved itself to me when I was running a stock car. One precaution though is to not run it if you have below 150 hrs on the tractor as it will interfere with the rings seating. I have a friend that put over 300000 miles on a Chrysler 2.2 turbo 4 cylinder without a engine tear down. He changed the Schaeffers oil religously every 6000 miles no sooner or later. Chrysler didn't intend for those engines to go much over 100 to 150 thousand miles. My friend had to finally retire the car after the rusty body wouldn't hold his tush off of the pavement any more. You can find Schaefers lubricants web site on the internet. Believe me I wouldn't steer you wrong.

I was thinking about synthetic for the hydro. For the engine I have used Mobil1 after the first change in single digit temps. The 15-40w was like molasses and I was concerned about it being slow to circulate. I have since gone with the Rotella 5-40w from Wal-Mart. I know that there has been a lot of talk on the Kubota UDT vs SUDT for the hydros on those but, I haven't followed it closely.

Like shvl73, I'm wondering about a synthetic replacement for the Type 303 Non Foaming in the tranny.

Just being specific. Mahindra 10 series HST's would target the same group.

Some of the Mahindra 10 series models were available as geared or hydro, as in a 2810 and a 2810HST. Not really a lot of similarity between the two. TYM built the chassis and hydro for the HST units, hence my question applies to TYM owners as well.

Don't seem to be getting a lot on hits on the tranny question, so i did a little research.

The manual recommends 5 fluids for the HST. I actually missed this till now, shows in lubrication chart, not specs like everything else.

RPM Tractor Hydraulic Fluid
Textran TDH Premium
TDH Oil
TDH Oil Special
Chevron 1000 THF

When I purchased oil from the dealer for the 50 hour change, he sold me a generic JD 303, said it was what they would use if serviced there.

I found a couple of synthetics that crossed to JD 303, Hy-Gard and Chevron 1000 THF (previosly sold as Chevron Tractor Hydraulic Fluid per Chevron's website). Texaco TDH appears to be identical to Chevron 1000 THF.

Probably best known is Amsoil Synthetic Tractor Hydraulic / Transmission Oil SAE 5W-30 (ATH).

Now that you mention it, I looked. It is right there isn't it. I think I'll check it out next time. I'm about 60+ hours off from my 300 hr service.

As for engine oil, the book states to use 10W30. It's not as common as 15W40 for diesels but I've been getting it at my tractor dealer in the New Holland brand. I also use the New Holland brand tranny fluid as it matched the specs as stated on the fluids referenced in the owners manual. Danny
