Have you considered a one way restrictor valve that can be placed inline and is adjustable?
I don't think the problem with fine control is the flow rate. It is in the inability to find the point that makes fluid flow and to throttle it at that point with the controls. A restrictor would indeed allow for fine control , but at the cost of losing speed when you need it. I didn't compare things that close. but the hydraulic control valves for the FEL looked very similar on both tractors. The difference appears to be in the mechanics (cables, joystick set-up) that actuate the control valves. On the Branson for a fine controlled curl I have to move the joystick sideways ever so slowly. Nothing happens.... nothing happens (due to slack in the system), and then it suddenly moves more than I want (due to an incorrect leverage ratio).
