TYM Warranty Disaster

   / TYM Warranty Disaster #41
TYM warranty: I had excellent results with TYM warranty. I’m the third owner of my T233. It was made in 2008. In 2017, the previous owner had one of the u-joints in the connection shaft between the engine and input shaft for the transmission go bad. It damaged the ion put bearing on the transmission.

The nearest dealer is two hours away, over a mountain pass, and the tractor was definitely out of warranty. So, he took it to the local independent tractor mechanic. He contacted TYM for the cost to replace the drive shaft, and input bearing. They warrantied the parts, and drop shipped them to him. They sent the complete shaft assembly, the input bearing, and the retainer plate for it.

TYM had not included the need to lubricate the u-joints in the shaft in the service manual. So, they assumed liability for the replacement parts, even though the tractor was well out of the warranty.

That said: TYM is having huge issues getting replacement parts, for many of the machines shipped to the dealers, because they are having trouble getting them imported from Korea. But, the closest dealer who handles several brands, says all of the companies are about the same right now. Parts for machines not currently in production are slow to arrive. A lot of the parts for my T233 and T293 are still in use on the T25, so they can be shipped fairly quickly, but the older parts that aren’t shared, are only available in Korea.

In my mind, based on what @nepa posted here, the TYM dealer and TYM in general has gone above and beyond what most dealer networks and OEMs would or could do in 2025.

~20 attempts by the dealer? A brand new replacement tractor?

All of this for just 2 MILs being lit on the dash that doesn't (or hasn't) effected the operation or safety of the machine, or the machine's operator.

I get it that ~$40K is a lot of money. It's way more than I've ever spent on anything with wheels and an engine, but at the end of the day, this is an "inexpensive" tractor for what it is. If this was a $400K green and yellow piece of equipment, you'd kind of expect at home service and the OEM throwing everything at it they could.

I just had to look it up. The average cost for a new vehicle in the US today is over ~$48K. Try getting GM, Ford, Toyota, etc..etc.. to give you 20 attempts and a replacement vehicle for something that isn't effecting safety or operations of the vehicle. It ain't gonna happen.

Regardless, I hate to see you have to stress over it and waste time and resources. I'm glad you have posted your experience as it will hopefully help others.

What this boils down to is that I cannot recommend anyone buy a TYM tractor. My first T574 cab tractor put my dealer and myself through a 30 month ordeal that according to my dealer made him sick. From the very first tank of fuel, as delivered from the dealer, the MIL (malfunction indicator light) and DPF lights came on and nothing would turn them off. That tractor was serial #00009, which I imagine puts it in early production category even though my dealer had to order it in October 2019. After my first report of this problem to my dealer, I waited two months with no action before asking if anyone was going to do anything. Long story short, after about 20 dealer visits to my farm and hauling the tractor back to the dealership for extensive work twice with the MIL and DPF lights reoccurring 5 times, my sending letters to TYM South Korea and my state attorney generals office, I was offered a replacement identical tractor or full refund. Since I had been many times told this was an isolated incident and I otherwise really liked the tractor, I took the replacement. Big mistake.

Now with 72 hours on the clock, the new tractor is having the exact same problem. I reported the problem to the dealer 9 months ago. The dealer notified his territory manager (TM) by phone and follow-up email. I have heard nothing from anyone even though again I wrote two letters to South Korea. My local (same town) dealer wrote me to look for another dealer to handle the warranty repair on a sale that he made the money on. I wrote back asking if that meant he was no longer going to service my tractor, to which I never received a reply.

In my experience, TYM is a terrible company to deal with if you have a warranty service problem, and I can not recommend that anyone buy any of their products. The above compilation is only a fraction of the problems that I endured. The 30 month ordeal made my dealer sick? What does he think it is like for me.
When my tractor had 12 hours on it I removed the DPF and blocked off the EGR. Over 1000 hours and no problems. The tractor spends a lot of time at idle running a log splitter so I didn't want to deal with regent all the time.
