The TYMs have a very narrow wheelbase..only 54 inch wide on 394, 494...all but the largest units. Most tractors are a foot wider or more. Anyone had stability issues on hills?

It appears that the Mahindra 26 XLT does not have Agriculture wheels. Ag wheels allow you to adjust width. Example - my rear wheels on my Kubota M6040 are set out at near widest setting - the front wheels are at a neutral setting.

If you want wider rear wheels - check you Op Manual and see if wheel spacers are allowed. This will make for a wider and more stable stance.

Remember - nothing can save you and your tractor if you suddenly have a rear tire drop in a hole or have the up-hill rear wheel go over a large rock.

Sidehilling is best done AFTER you have considerable experience.

Check with the dealer but most brands, if you get the tractor with R1 tires, will have width adjustable rear rims and maybe the fronts too. Around here, with R1 Radials, front and rear rims are adjustable in width.

You can see - the rear wheels are set out. More than half the width is outside the lip of the fender. Outside to outside - 82".

Thanks. What do the spacers look like? Rings or actual axle extensions? I dont have the tractor yet.

ptsg has an excellent thought. If you plan on R-1 tires - see if the tractor can be fitted with Ag rims. Ag rims give an infinite selection of rear - and perhaps front - tire width.

Otherwise - spacer are rings. Fit between the tire rim and the axle flange.

I test drove a 494 and a 574c yesterday. These series 4 tractors (494, 574, 454, 554) are 10" wider and about 800 lbs heavier than the 3 series (394 and 474). If I ran TYM, I would change the numbering system...these would be called 393 and 473.

For comparison, the Kubota 3901 would be about an inch and a half wider, but weighs 300 lbs less than the 394. The wheelbase on the 394 is a little more than an inch longer than the Kubota.

FYI, wheelbase is the distance between the front and rear axle. 64.5" on the series 3....76.2" on the series 4....63.3" on the Kubota 3901.
