I'm at 49 hours now and I'm going over to the dealer's tomorrow to pick up all the fluids and filters I need to do the 50 hour service. We'll see how bad they scrape me and then see how to proceed with future service. :) Actually, this dealer seems to have a pretty good reputation of taking care of customers and dealing fairly, so hopefully it won't be too bad.

I've always used hydraulic fluid & engine oil from the dealer - its competitively priced. Last year when I changed out my anti-freeze I went to the extended life stuff from Prestone.

I can understand if the NH dealer is higher than equivalent items I buy from Tractor Supply or AutoZone. But in comparing prices after the fact, the dealer charged me more than the retail on the New Holland web site! I just thought I would verify the pricing I got, put in the first filter number and found a link to the New Holland web site. It asked me to put in my zip code so I did and it found my dealer. Everything on there was cheaper than what they sold me by a few dollars, $40 in total on a $290 bill. I feel like if there was a discount to be obtained by ordering through the NH web site and then picking it up at the dealer, they should have told me that. I talked to the salesman who sold me the tractor and the service manager and neither indicated that. I hope they enjoy that $40 extra profit they made because that is the last time I will ever darken their door.

Since we live in a 'free' country they can charge whatever they want for anything. You can see it on Amazon and even eBay. You know that an item has a list price of say $10.00 but it's on Amazon or eBay for $15. It angers me as well since I think the 'list' price for anything is highway robbery to say the least, but above list price, now that's ballsy. But they do.

I've run into the same thing at our local NAPA store. They are privately owned franchises. I had to argue to get the online (regular) price, not even a sales price. They finally did but told me they 'did me a favor' and I couldn't buy any more at that price. It was oil for crying out loud! I haven't bought oil from them since.

DEWFPO .... who paid $11.32 for a 9 inch all rubber INSERT for a rear wiper blade (the size of a drinking straw) at the "stealer". We don't call them that for nothing, many of they have 'earned' that title. I won't do that again. I told the parts guy that I would appreciate any discount he could give me and he told me they only give discounts on parts within one year of a new vehicle purchase from them only. I've haven't purchased another thing from them and that was 11 years ago. What fools, they loose so much business for being greedy and arrogant.

When you're an "authorized dealer" you are bound by certain contracts and policies. I don't know if price is one of those, but when I go onto a company's web site, it allows me to choose one of their authorized dealers and it gives me a price for something, that's what I'm expecting to pay when I go into the dealer. Especially when it actually allows you to purchase through that web site. In their defense, it allows you to transmit the order to the dealer, and then they call you to verify the order, but I don't know why they would quote the price on the web site only for the dealer to call you and say, Ok your $230 order is going to be $270. You know everybody on this web site would say, "What?!" Again, if that's how they want to do business, no problem.

Then continue to support that dealer. They will take care of you.

myself, most likely go with a specific oil, for new tractor/truck/car on the first couple fluid changes if manual demands specific type of fluids. but if they are not calling for anything special. then would be going with off brand. and some place else. that is within specifications of oil type. if they do not demand and state out right in manual that you gotta use this type of oil/brand, but only give specifications for oil. then there should be no way to toss a warrenty out if oil was to specifications of what they noted and from some off brand oil company.

with above said. some tractors hold a lot of oil in them. if me, i might pay for dealer to do the fluid changes. just so i do not have to mess with the gallons upon gallons of old oil.

i can handle car/truck oil change for engine, transmission, differentials. but getting into tractor hydraulic oil changes, and HST / hydraulic transmissions. you getting into 5 to 20 plus gallons pending on size of tractor. dealing with a 30 gallon to 55 gallon drum of oil or bunch of old oil containers. ends up to be a messy job. a dealer most likely has a car/truck/tractor lift or some sort of drain pain with pump that sends oil to a waste drum. and get stuff done quick.

I get all my oil and filters for my JD 6400 from my JD dealer. The Plus 50 oil may be a little more expensive but in the 21 years I've owned the tractor so far no engine problems.

It's just not right that a 6400 should be 21 years old.
