I'm looking to purchase a new Tractor. I been looking at TZ25da or TC23DA TC26DA.

I'm try to make the proper choice on the tractor and which model is best suited for my needs.

Every thing I read on the purchasing a tractor has really 2 points
- Buy for your needs
- Buy the biggest tractor that will work with your needs

So here are my needs ..

1) My property: (total 5.5 acres)
1) 3 acres of land to mow mostly sloped
2) one hill with a steep grade 30 degrees or better---concern is tipping
3) 2 acres Pine forest with tree about 4' apart - nearly 200 trees
- this area can be very wet at times - concern is being stuck
4) Brush and scrub tree in all areas and clean up old brush piles
5) 1/2 acre is very swampy

2) Primary uses
- Mowing
- Snow removal in driveway
3) Secondary uses
1) Clear heavy grass area - Mowed less often
2) Clear/move brush and Cut trees

4) Future uses
1) Level several section of land
2) Replace fencing that surrounds most of the 5 acres

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Have you used "Product Counselor" on NH website? Deere has a similar function on their website as well.

Thank you for the quick reply. I just checked out the Production Counseler. The results were ranged between tz18 and tC34. Not much help.

Thanks again.

I don't think theTC26DA is the biggest tractor that will work for your needs. That would be the next size tractor up. If those are your choices, go with the TC26DA.

Jim,
The 3 units you are looking at are nice, high quality tractors. I'm sure you realize the TZ25 is a sub-compact tractor. The others are a Class I tractor. The mowing and snow removal might be acomplished ok with the TZ. You can get a 60" MMM on any of them. I don't know if you can go as far as a 72" MMM on the Class I's or not.
The TZ might be better in the areas that have a 30 degree slope due to it's smaller size. But some of your future uses might be better handled by a little larger framed and heavier tractor. The TZ is a, somewhat, newcomer to the market for NH.
If it was my decision and budget was not an option, I'd go with the TC26.

I have the smallest Class I that NH offered when I bought mine, a TC18 which is no longer offered. If I could have afforded it, I would have wanted a TC21 or TC24, and I only have 2 acres.

I measured up the tc26 and it the largest of the NH tractors I can fit into my garage with my 2 cars during the winter. So I really can't go bigger.

Is there a big difference what the TC26 and Tz25 can or can't do? (because of the frame difference)

I haven't seen the tc18,21, or 24. Are they still in NH product line?

Is the MMM a pain to remove vs. a rear finish mower?

The TC18 has been discontinued, the TC21 is now the TC23 and the TC24 is now the TC26. Mostly done with engine modifications. The TC23 and TC26 have more weight based on a larger frame. The FEL that is available on the Class I units probably have a bit more lift and capacity than the 10LA FEL on the the TZ25. I think you'd be better suited with a TC26DA with the LA12 loader. Now if the the TC34, which is similar to the TC33 that I'm used to, would fit in the garage........:)

Jim,

First, the MMM is always going to be tougher to put on and remove over a RFM. However, getting around the 200 trees with a RFM will be a pain. I would stay with the MMM you will be much happier and so will your neck. Remember when going around the trees a RFM will move away from the tree.

As far as what tractor to go with I think it mostly depends on your slopes. The TZ I beleive has a lower ground clearance which is good for your hills, unless your like me and you can mow up and down on them. I went with the largest tractor I could go with. I have 2.5 acreas and I even went up to the class ll TC29D. But I can't mow on the side hills to well sideways. Up and down only. Your side hills may force you to the TZ. The class 1's that you are looking at will do a better job for all of your other tasks so if you can make them work for mowing on your hills that is where I would be and go with the larger one.

Have your dealer bring both of them out once and let you run them around for a day and see what you like the best.

First of all, this is all great advice. Thank you to all

Your right about mowing up and down vs across. That's how I do it now. I do get nose heavy going down but up is fine.

The MMM sounds like the correct approach too.

Sounds like the the TC26 is the way to go. But I'll see this the dealer is willing to drive both out to my house for a test run.

Thanks, again
Jim
