THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! That is really good information. I was worried I'd tear it all apart and not have everything I needed to get it back together. How many hours on your tractor when you did the valve adjustment? Got about 400 hours on mine now and I think it's clacking a little bit. A regular 3/4" 46mm socket is too big to fit in between the crank hub and the radiator. I'll try the alternator trick.

Turn alternator clockwise if you were looking at nut (never came off so I assume it's fine), just turn it slow, doesn't take much effort. Hardest part is tightening 12mm nut while holding the stubby screwdriver with the muffler so close when setting valve, will take some time to get adjustments right. so far so good only ran it for half hour though after finish.
