Kubota LX331HSDC (hers) and L45 (mine), RTV1100 (hers)
Since I had to replace bucket cylinder seals on my L45 and I was near the 200 hour service interval, I decided to change out the trans/hyd fluid and filters in case the seals contaminated the system. The L45 TLB holds 12 gals of UDT, book states either UDT or super UDT can be used. Came with UDT from the dealer but decided to get super UDT2 and use Wix filters that I already had that the dealer sold me with I bought it.

A few lessons learned (I am sure the rest of you already knew this but I learned a few things this go around)

First, draining 12 gals of hyd from the small space under the tractor is not a fun process, so I tried a new technique. I put shop vac in the fill hole, removed the drain plug and only a few drips came out (I did this when I changed filters on my B2710 and it worked like a charm). Then I pulled the shop vac out of the fill hole and let the oil fill up one of my oil drain pans. When it was full, I put the shop vac hose back in the fill hole and slide the pan out, put another one in and repeat, wow, only spill was me splashing it out of the drain pan. One caution, when the oil is almost out the shop vac will just suck air and oil will still come out but it is only a few gallons at this point. Lesson learned, shop vac is my friend on all hyd oil/filter changes.

Second, pulled the hyd filters off and notice right away something is different from the Wix, the Kubota filter has magnets on top of the filter and they are full of metal curls from manufacturing. Checked the wix filter and the magnets will not fit, did not like the idea of not having the magnets based on the metal on the ones I removed. So, scramble around to find a dealer that has them, after much talking, manage to get a dealer to let me pay for them on the phone and leave them outside their fence (remember doing this a lot growing up on the farm but seemed foreign to the Kubota dealer). Lesson learned, stick with Kubota filters, wix was only $5 cheaper and I spent that on time and traveling to get them in the first place.

Third, refilled the sump with supper UDT2, cost was $27 a gallon, ouch. Used UDT with all my Kubota's in the past, tried UDT spec'ed oil once, HST whined much more than I cared for, when back to UDT. Dealer thought I would see a difference in noise and winter operation which I had complained about. Wow, upon startup, almost no hyd pump whine. Let it warm up, took it out for a spin and wow again, half the HST whine. Hmm, might be something to what the dealer said. I only put 50-75 hours a year on the thing so I only get to change it about every two years, so not much of a cost when averaged out. Lesson learned, super UDT2 for all my Kubota's from now on, I should not complain about cost, I bought CAT hyd oil for my 933, it was ouch ouch priced.:laughing:

My manual specifies to use Super UDT-2 but my dealer said regular Super UDT was ok. I bought what the manual said.

I think, not positive, that Kubota stopped stocking SUDT a couple three years ago and it's UDT or SUDT-2. Some dealers probably have left over stock of SUDT which wouldn't bother me to use but would pick SUDT-2 if the same price or near same price. A big discount would persuade me to go with SUDT with no concerns.

I agree about the factory filters and SUDT2. My noise level dropped drastically with SUDT2. At only approx. 100hrs per year OEM all the way. Cost difference is negligible. I then know the filters and oil are right for the machine.

Some tractors do not fuss too much with a "meets Kubota" spec type generic tractor Hydraulic Fluid. But, both the B series and especially the BX series I've owned really, really, really prefered the SUDT and when SUDT-2 came out, it seems even better. There's ZERO aftermarket filters for the transmission in too many small Kubota's so, there's no choice there. My dealer(s) do NOT rip me off on their filters so I've never had anything to complain about. It's not like you burn through them. A filter every few years is hardly worth stressing over in any case.

The engine oil/filter isn't nearly as proprietary in my mind. Rotella or Delo synthetic and a Hasting or Wix filter is not an issue for me.

UDT=dyno
SUDT2=synthetic blend
Amsoil=fully synthetic

This is what I have found out. Based on that I am using Amsoil tomorrow to change my HST fluid. Right now I have UDT and the whine is loud. I was told the Amsoil will make the whine less loud and the tranny will run cooler.

I will let you guys know in a few days.

Well, my Kubota is officially 100% Amsoil Tractor.
Amsoil 15W-40 in engine, Amsoil 75W-90 in front axle, and Amsoil HST fluid for tranny and hydraulics. All fully synthetics.
As cold as it gets here in NW Indiana I like how the fully synthetic oils flow when very, very cold. I was worried that the thick front axle gear oil will not flow well in cold days in the winter, but the Amsoil stuff I got doesn't seem that thick and flows like 5W-30. Sweet.

All filters are factory Kubota.

My 50 service is done @ 47 hours today. :)

The only way I can get the tranny to whine is when I put it in high gear and step on the forward pedal all the way from full stop. Very happy. It seems the tranny is running cooler too.

So as my orange and yellow machines are just a wee bit out of warrantee, I guess it is safe to say I change my filters about 1/2 as often as i should, and Have maybe 1300-1400 hours on hy hydraulic oil in the L39. Royal purple at 50 Bucks a gallon does not get changed unless their is good reason. Finally getting dirty, so next engine oil change (Every 100 hours or so), Ill change the hydraulic oil.

PS I use good oil. I pulled about my old Briggs & Stratton 35 year old heavy used log spliter before it went to scrap yard. The auxilarys on the motor rusted away, carb was tired, It was cheaper to freplace with a chinese engine than repair. The old motor internally looked factory fresh, croshatching all the way up the bore! Solid compression, it was a same to toss.

PS Kubota hydraulic filters are the safe smart ones to use.
