Would we be evil like that in our travels?

If we had that travel ability today the answer would be "yes". Hopefully we will evolve into benevolent creatures.

Sadly, you are correct. If we landed on a planet of spotted owls we'd sacrifice our race to save them. But if we landed on a planet of intelligent life we'd destroy them with our stupid good intentions. We barely have tolerance for our varied races here let alone embracing an alien lifeform...... :(

I would hope to see you qualify that assessment.

The fact is, the United States is a force for good in the world - the greatest force for good among all nations. The American people are more generous than any several other nations combined. Of course, if you are referring to intergalactic travel from the religion of peace countries - yes, bloodshed at every stop.

I agree with your assessment of the U.S. as in the greatest force for good among all nations. But that in no way means we are benevolently good. Just means we are slightly better than the competition.....

Seems to me, we would likely sign them all up for food stamps.

All you have to do is look at the historical record of wars, slavery, brutality, the list goes on and on. Humans are savages with a thin veneer of civility. It's going to take 10's of thousands (if not 100's of thousands of years) before we evolve to the point of being galactically socially acceptable.

My question is why are aliens usually portrayed so similar to humans... two legs, two arms, a head, and close in size? My guess is that if they do exist they wouldn't look anything like us and be a completely different size.

It is, of course, the essence of Christianity that God loves man and for his sake became man and died. But that does not prove that man is the sole end of Nature. In the parable, it was the one lost sheep that the shepherd went in search of: it was not the only sheep in the flock, and we are not told that it was the most valuable - save in so far as the most desperately in need has, while the need lasts, a peculiar value in the eyes of Love.
C. S. Lewis ‘Dogma And The Universe’

Here is how I see it; I'm Christian, so I believe I'm made in gods image. To me that means the angles and any other being are subordinate to me! So I'm not afraid of something like an extraterrestrial, or anything else. If there are other life forms; they are below me, I don't really care about them. I'm next to God, their somewhere below. My bet is people observer a not understood weather phenomenon. HS.

Disturbing. What happens if they look like us? Still considered subordinate?
