What you saw was definitely a UFO. No one can doubt that. :)
What I have to laugh about is someone sees a light (unidentifiable) and then turn right around and professes to identify the light as space ship from another planet. Lol.... Lol... Lol... HS

I have probably told this goofy story before, so if you have heard it before just skip on to the next post. But here goes.

A long long time ago in a Galaxy far far away, I was a dispatcher for the Greene county Sheriffs Department. I was sitting at the console minding my own business when the phones started lighting up one evening. The first caller said that he had witnessed a "twin engined aircraft with the right engine on fire" go down near Republic Mo near the tar tanks. The tar tanks were a kind of landmark at the time on the west end of Republic. So I alerted the shift commander and he advised units to head in that direction, and he advised me to call out the Civil Defense and a couple of the local fire departments as well as calling out some reserves to institute a search for this downed aircraft after it became apparent that it was not going to be found in the first few minutes.

Meanwhile I continued to field phones calls from observers seeing "something on fire and in the air" to the west end of the county. The observations varied to burning trees etc. I started to get suspicious when an observer in Fordland a town one county to the east also called me and said he saw what he thought was an aircraft going down over to the west in Greene county. Now wait a darn minute. How could an observer so far away see an aircraft go down in the west end of Greene county?.. We are talking about 50 miles or more away.

My suspicions got even more stoked as I started to pay attention to the 155.73mhz all sheriffs radio frequency and it seemed every county was chasing some kind of phantom in the west end of their county's. I called Lawrence county (next county to my west) on the radio and inquired as to what they thought they had. He replied they had a downed aircraft reported in the west end of their county. Uh, huh. Yeah right, we all have downed aircraft in the west end of all of our counties.

By now we had every law dog, and firefighter and CB deputy we could find running up and down the roads in the western end of our county searching for this non-existent downed aircraft. I had made and taken more phone and radio calls than any mortal man ought to have to deal with!.

I then called the shift commander on the radio and gave him the facts about all the other counties looking for this phantom too and he wisely called in the dogs. The big search was canceled and gasoline and resources were conserved.

To make a long story short, we learned that several hours later that a large meteor had entered the earths atmosphere and burned up and left a nice fiery trail somewhere over Oklahoma (which is to my west).

As for the moron that saw the "twin engine aircraft with the right engine on fire" All I can say is he had a very active imagination. People often see what they want to see, or they see something that makes sense to them to try to explain something that they have seen that they can't make sense out of.
Eyewitness reports of almost anything are almost worthless.

I don't have any problem at all in thinking that we aren't alone in the universe, but I have never seen anything in my lifetime to prove that idea.

Yup experienced that stuff as SAR commander in the Coast Guard over thirty years. Had a Doctor, yes a well educated man report a cruise ship on fire once, turned out to be a small flare stack on a fixed unmanned rig not much bigger that a house. HS.

I wasn't implying so,,,, and I'm positive the poster wasn't implying so either.

It seems your definition of UFO is space ship from another planet??

My definition is anything I see flying in the sky that I can't identify. I see UFOs very often. Maybe they are all explainable. Maybe not. But until they are explained, they are UFOs. :)

Good comeback, sounds safe for you, but it's not what UFO means to most.... It means alien spaceship, we are being visited by aliens, it means extraterrestrial life, it means contact, all that crap. You know. HS

Wasn't taking the safe road. Was simply replying to your comments, as I am now. You are displaying the alien theory more than most on here. Are you concerned about the accuracy of your stance??? :D

I relish the chance to make fun of the UFO nut balls. You sound grounded, most UFO types think the government is hiding something, aliens or proof positive of extra terrestrials, seems their goal to prove it true... You seemed to be in that camp, until challenged in front of others. I apologize if I was wrong. HS

Oh the Government is definitely hiding something from you. What was that movie where Tom Cruise was the Navy Lawyer and Jack Nickelson was the Commanding Officer when Jack said "You Can't Handle The Truth"??? We individually have varied positions in that regard. None of us can completely handle it. :)

I have my assumptions as we all do. Can't be anything else until proven one way or the other. But I stop short of calling anyone's opinions "UFO nut balls".

As I said earlier, you will know the truth the instant you die.

You'll surely know which side of that truth you were on in life. HS

Here's a fun website for evening sky watching...

Heavens-Above

It lists pretty much every satellite, space junk, rocket booster, etc.... that can be tracked. If you give it a location and time it will tell you what will be visible, where to orient your view on the compass, how much of an angle to look up, what time it will pop out from behind the earth's shadow. When, in its trajectory it will be at its brightest. How bright it will be. When it will fade.

Really, really fun to see what's up there. I highly recommend it.

Also, if you see something going over, make a mental note of how high it was, what direction of travel it was going, etc... and you can later look up on this website and see what it was.
