Deere:
4610 e-hydro, 460 Loader w/4n1 bucket / 48 backhoe
rear remote, block heater, girll guard, QT bucket, arm-rests
What is pretty amazing is that in the last four years the prices haven't gone up at all..I paid almost exactly the same (less the 4n1 bucket) for a 4600 Deere in 1999! So considering you have the 4n1 bucket this is a great deal...

Larry,

I would go back to the New Holland Dealer and tell him you were set to buy from him until John Deere threw in a price and now there is too much difference. Tell him your were pretty excited about the blue tractor but just can't see paying the difference. More than likely he will ask where he has to be and I would just tell him he has one chance to give you his best deal.

As far as either tractor, both of them are great and both of them have their little quirks and problems. No matter what you end up with you will like it. The other thing I would look at is which dealer do you think has the best reputation. Both manufactures are good and will be around for a long time but they are only as good as their dealer. I would go with the dealer you like the best.

just my opinion.

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Do you honestly think NH won't be around in ten years? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yes, JD made $344 million in profit while CNH posted $104 million loss prior to a $300 million dollar accounting adjustment (Goodwill from the merger), but JD increased their long term debt by $2 billion dollars while CNH decreased the LTD by $2 billion this year. These are only two of the many factors to look at in determining the health of a company. I admit the JD spreadsheet looks better, but NH isn't looking THAT bad.

Larry, you better take that deal before the John Deere dealer changes his mind. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Larry,

Disregard the price difference for a moment…

Which tractor does your “butt” like better? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Leg room, shifting, platform space, ergonomics…?

Ten years from now, which one will fit you like a glove and “still” keep a big smile on your face…?

The money difference is “spit” at the end… /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the perspective. You are right. In the next day I am going to go and do one final sit on them both.

One of the differences I need to work through is between the NH and the JD is the way in which the 4n1 is plumbed. It seems that the NH dealers use a very heavy duty 67" skidsteer type bucket from www.calmfg.com. They plumb it is electic over hydro with a switch on the top of the joystick (very nice /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) I had the Deere dealer use the same bucket as I felt it important to make an apples to apples comparison and the bucket is more substantial than the 60" JD bucket which comes standard. They however do not want to use the electric over hydro and this is a cheaper way to go.

I really appreciate all your comments.

The electric over hydraulic is really nice. Thats the way my Cat skid steers is and after loading chicken manure for 8 hours I really appreciate the ease of the controls.

Your doing the right thing by getting the one that fits you best. If it is the NH get them to come down at least to the JD price.

Good Luck
Eric

I tried out the Deere before I tried out the NH and I would have paid more to have the NH over the Deere!
But in my case the NH was $3000 cheaper than the same, well slightly smaller Deere and I got $3000 more trade on my Kubota fron NH dealer.
I really like the class III NH tractors.
I don't care for all the electric stuff on the Deere (the wife,I made here run them too, had trouble w/ some of the stuff not working all the time).

Check out the pedal arrangement on the hydro and the brakes. Maybe you'll be more comfortable with one over the other.

If you still can't pick...buy one of each...Green for Mon, Wed, Fri...the BLUE for Tue, Thur, and Sat. .....Sunday you can wash them !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you don't decide by August 5th or 6th, there will be compact tractors you can actually drive at Empire Farm Days in Seneca Falls NY. While the show is for three days, the driving experience is actually going to be on Tuesday and Wednesday. There may be a website (empirefarmdays.com ?) with more information.
