I won't even go into gun control stuff at all, but the UK is trying to ban pointed knifes. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4581871.stm
For public safety, please take a hack saw to your butcher knives this weekend and dispose of them properly. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I understand they control knives in prision, but...

Brent, it is not the knives they are afraid of there, it is the people. Goes to the whole point of what the government "trusts" and it doesn't trust people. Follow that up with a general populace that is somewhat sheepish about individual rights and is willing to trade personal liberty for the perception of safety.

Yeah..crazy, isn't it?
When the Brits banned most guns, crime went up dramatically...including crimes with guns.
So, now they're eliminating knives as self defense too. Of course, the Brits have no rights to bear arms or self defense.

It really is insane when a government cannot admit they made a mistake.

Well, the obvious solution is to cut the sharp point off the knife and weld it to the handle butt. Then its there for the few occasions you need it but not long enough to disembowel anyone.

When is this world going to understand the real problem. It's not the guns, knives and what ever else they can put in the mix it is the people. When are they going to realise this and go after the real problem. Interesting on how states that have the conceal and carry and the crime rate has dropped.

I'm sort of a non-typical guy. Redneck country boy and a computer geek rolled up into one. I catch it from both sides with the stuff you guys are talking about as well as the computerized equivalent since I own guns and knives as well as computers and some types of programs taking heat at the moment.

The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) are aggressively suing the companies that make such programs as Gnutella and other file sharing programs. Their lobbyists are trying to get laws passed that outlaw "generic" computers that users can use as they see fit. They want only specialized use boxes that can only function for pre-defined uses. The comparison is the same. It isn't the software or computers that break the laws. A person can trade a legal file just as easy as they can trade an illegal one. A person can use a computer to do something legal (but unplanned for by the makers) just as well as they can do something illegal but unplanned.

And how much waste are we going to have here. Anytime I want to change my software or add something I have to go out and buy a new box. I understand what you are saying and I do believe the MPAA and the RIAA are trying to get this achieved. But this is as about as dumb as a box of rocks. And they can pass this and some one else will come up with another way of sharing files. Man hearing this just burns me up and I don't share files with the music or the movie industry.

Ok I am ok now. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is hilarious. Some doctors suggest removing sharp knives because in the hands of a violent person they represent a hazard.

The conservatives feel threatened.

They ought to be more concerned about how much makeup their mother wore before and during their pregnancy. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

(for the unknowing there's been a link discovered between a chemical in women's makeup and genital malfunction in their male offspring)

Using their logic, I can club a person to death with a good heavy book. Lets outlaw books. Is that not scary?

Some people trained in fighting skills can kill easily with their bare hands. Lets outlaw hands.
