Ultra-sonic Pest repellant devices

( On one midnite drear, it seems I remember, [or imagined], that mothballs are not favored by mice. I wonder if your county extension might be of some help?

I can tell you definitely that mothballs do NOT work. My wife and I are refurbishing a 30ft camper to haul to our place in Arkansas. My brother had kept it in a field at deer camp for the last 4 years....loaded with mothballs. It's also loaded with mouse/rat droppings, and dirt dobber nests. When we pulled it to our home 3 weeks ago to start cleaning/refurbishing it, she bought a 6 pack of cheapies at Big Lots. I don't really know yet if they are or are not working. As we have cleaned it well, and there is no food in it yet, I dont think we will know till we get it to Arkansas. I am very skeptical however of anything that smacks of "snake oil"

Well, I think I'll have to join slowrev in saying they work.
I too got cheap ones but don't recall from where.
I can't think of any reason other than these sonic things that are keeping the varmints away. I had poison out prior to installing these and I could see it was being eaten.
I put these repellers in a few years ago and for about 6 months, in conjunction with poison. The poison wasn't touched. The content hasn't changed. There's plenty of corn, grass seed, insulation... (all the things mice like) and nothing's touching it.

The building next to it doesn't have them and has plenty of mice.

bczoom,
Finally another enlightened one /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have another update, A few days ago a friend I had recommended them to called ma and said they were junk and did not work. I went over there and ALL of the repellers had been placed behind something. Workling with him we repositioned them so they had a clear field to radiate in and he just called a few minutes ago and said NO MORE MICE !

Mine are all pointing directly outward into the rooms and are in no way obstructed. Concrete floor and relative open space probably lets it radiate and echo as well.
Lost the instructions but there is a switch on the back that changes the sound and frequency. Not sure if this was to be used for different types of varmints or if it was to be changed occasionally to screw up any that weren't affected or got used to a certain pitch.

Maybe the switch was like on one set I got to try. They had a pest setting or mosquito or both. The mosquito part does NOT work ( maybe I have deaf mosquitoes) and makes an annoying noise. I just leave them set to pest. All brands I have tried (3) DO work for mice and such and seem to keep Roaches away too, Have not seen a roach in the house or shop since I started using them. Many other vermin seem to ignore them, spiders for instance do not seem to be bothered by them.
They are well worth the money. They have more than paid for themselves by not buying traps and and pizens. And they are maintenance free, I just forget about mice /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello everyone!

I would like to recommend this link for all of your pest control needs. I got hooked up with them about 4 years ago after I had a bout with carpenter bees. www.BUGSPRAY.COM
is great resource for all pest control problems.

Good luck with your uninvited guests!

Thanks rtvman.

According to that site, they work when installed properly (open area and correct switch setting).
They do qualify their results in effect stating that some may not work as well as advertised and they sell a commercial one.

Nice site, but they seem a bit biased on what they sell /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't think they would promote something that would cut off their income on rodent control.
